RNG Crafting Critical.

LOL same faces as always crapping themselves that someone might have something better or faster than them
you gotta laugh at the i want instantly or be able to grind 24/7 to get it first crowd
i'm actually surprised at the amount of people who claim they have no interest in playing the game anymore
so they play the forums instead
insisting on shoving there opinion down every one's throats

Thanks for clearing that up by shoving your opinion down all of our throats... ;)

...

I think this thread has achieved what constructive amount of content it could at this stage compared to the others out there at least.

The idea that people are complaining about something that has yet to be confirmed in either a stream or by the release itself is quite astounding in my opinion.
Are you new here? ;)

I thought I'd seen it all with the Open/Solo, PvP/PvE, nerf/buff threads but this really is something else.

Yeah, but your CPU, when overclocked does not start calculating using Quantum theory does it?
Absolutely. That would be ridiculous. And can you imagine if your remote ship detection system suddenly started cooking food faster than any other method while you were trying to improve its efficiency? Total insanity!

(Not all analogies are equal).

I think we know nothing about the underlying RNG at this time, is that right, or have people managed to figure something out?
People have figured out nothing. They've realised there's something that might have a thus far unquantified effect at the extremes of min-maxing, and have started the latest in a long line of Great Frontier Forum Chicken Little Conventions in response.

Look, fellow forumites, if the implementation of this turns out to be so minimally effective as to be pointless, or so statistically punishing as to be avoided, then I'll be the first in line to hurl some brickbats at FD. If for no other reason than they'll have wasted a good chunk of the last six months' development time when they could have been working on something more useful to me. Because sometimes I can be just as selfish as the next guy.

But I'm not going to make that call until I've seen how it's been implemented. Two or three screenshots from a build that even the devs aren't using themselves any more, let alone about to pass on to the beta testers, tells me absolutely nothing other than there is likely an as yet unquantified and unpredictable statistical variance when applying experimental modifications to mass produced technological products using possibly unrefined materials of uncertain provenance.

And in a game that has taken more of its fair share of knocks over the years for being "unrealistic", that is one of the most believable concepts I've seen. Other opinions are of course available.

I sincerely hope they've made it so the 'specials' only occur on mostly nerfed upgrades - "oh sorry it's running so hot and wild you've got emissive rounds though" kind of deal

Then it can remain thoroughly balanced with no super-weapons and could be hugely interesting with some very odd loadouts as each individual weapon ends up with it's own weird - that's a vast, vast number of combinations and if there's enough good weapons in there it will keep a shifting balance.

Then what would we do with our time?!?
