Road to Colonia and FSD injection

Hi cmdrs,

First trip to Colonia, from Sirius, with my DBX.
Jump range 52-58 LY.

As far as I can see it is impossible to get the destination straight away (as a unique route) but you need to make some stop over (Rohini).

I mean... 154 jumps Sirius-Rohini... it's a lot only for half a way...

Is there something that can make it quicker?
I tried injection too but I probably did not understand how it works : injected (2lv)->route > jump>nothing happend.
I expected at least one 75LY jump.
Did I invert steps?

Just in case you don't know, there's nothing special there apart from a sky full of stars. Don't make the mistake I did. i went there to unlock the engineers so i could pin their blueprints, but I'd forgotten that I hadn't got one of the engineers in the bubble fully unlocked to get the invite for the Colonia one, so I had to make the journey twice. exigeousm did a good video about the Colonia Engineers that covered how to get there quickly by neutron star jumping. You need the right stuff in your ship to do that because it causes damage that you have to repair, so make sure you understand about that bfore you go:

DTEA's vid on how to use the neuton highway is pretty good:

There are stations along the way for repairs if you forget an afmu, as well. More specifically, ground outposts.

Jumponium injections don't tag on to your route, they are separate jumps. So synthesise jumponium, select star at expected jump range for boost using "target" destination not route plotter, jump. Open galaxy map to let route plotter replot your route or do another jumponium jump. Hint for long distances, select something interesting nearby on expected route and go and have a look, there's no reason to do it all in one hit, a bit of sight seeing is what you should be doing.

With the extra time spent synthesising and having to manually select the jump destination (I don't think the plotter accounts for you having created an FSD injection?) it's possibly quicker overall just to do more jumps. Injection is useful for getting to hard-to-reach places. The route plotter will however make use of neutron stars if you select the option.

Go a bit off the route if you're after discoveries. You don't have to go far out of your way.

Indeed, Jumponium was only ever meant to get people to places regular jumps couldn't reach and not a general travel boost, if you do premium injection the time waiting for synthesis, selecting a jump target and jumping could easily be used for 3 or 4 regular jumps, depending on a number of factors of course. Colonia feels a long way away, but only if you are fixated on reaching it as quickly as possible. Once you discard that idea and start enjoying the trip it changes, visit nebulas, scan life forms, I believe there are a couple of tourist beacons on the way there, have fun and don't fixate on getting to Colonia in the shortest possible time.

Thanks! Actually I am gong there to unlock Mel Brandon. I font have invitation yet I suppose I need a mission there or something right?

However it is really far away even with 70LY jump..

Yes, forget the people doing it in 2+ hours. It will take much longer!

Colonia highway is the best shortcut. Saves about 5000ly

What do you mean with colonia highway?
I found that I can't set a route straight away from sirius so I plan to stop in Rohini.
Perhaps next time I need to get a Conda properly fit.

If unlocked by Elvira (I assume that is what you are saying)... Sell your Carto data at any of the Colonia Council controlled stations / outposts along the way and you will be allied virtually immediately and receive the invite.

Pack an AFMU (switch it off until needed) and get on the Neutron Highway and go a few 100's LY up or down from the plane and get plenty of '1st discovery' systems along the way.

Or just follow the Highway as suggested and save time.

There are a handful of stations as wayposts between the bubble & Colonia - (Google is your friend with that as a search) which provide services for the traveller...

I know of several others (as well as myself) who have made the journey in fully fitted warships with 30Ly or less jump... 80Ly isn't actually needed, just quicker ;)

I think he means the Neutron Highway, but the Colonia Highway is a number of stations along the way to Colonia where you can land and repair if needed. And when you land they also work as checkpoints so you’ll only return to the last station where you landed if you die.

The max length of a route is 20,000 ly. That’s why you can’t plot it straight to Colonia in one go.

Oh ok thanks, given the distance I meanwhile want to unlock Palin and those engineers who requires 5000LY from starting point. Is it ok to stop between starting and arrival points or will it reset the counter? Thanks! (A bit of topic)

Yes it won’t reset the counter.

(check my post again - I edited it)

If you're looking for places to visit along the way, sights to see, things to do while you're there, or just general inspiration then can I refer you to my own Colonia adventure which is now on its 20th day.

The link to day 1 of the actual adventure starts here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/going-to-colonia.558244/page-4#post-8861555

Look me up when you get there!

It doesn't matter what you do, the only thing that matters is that number in your stats that says how far from staring point you have reached, if it's over 5000ly that's all you need. It's essentially not a mission, it's an achievement, how far have you gone, more than 5000ly? Job done!

I suspect you have to make a jump in your ship while over 5,000ly from home for it to count, rather than just sitting on a Carrier and then never leaving whatever system the Carrier is in.

Seriously, don't waste your precious jumponium materials on this unless you are really in a hurry. But if you must, it's worth trying the level 1 to test the mechanism .You may also consider if you have enough for a return jump, lest you stray into the dark void from which no traveller returns without a return ticket or access to a fuel rat.

Don't think so, it's just 5000ly no matter how you get there, should be an interesting experiment if anyone wants to try, but I can't do it myself.

yup. Might even have been just entering SC, but you have to leave the FC. (Did that recently, but since I had to jump to the engineer system from Colonia I might be misremembering the SC bit.)
