Roadmap

Yes, so the order are as follows.

Alpha 1 (Intitial content)
Alpha 2 (First adding of more content)
Alpha 3 (Second adding of more content)
Beta (Full game content) Final bug testing.
Eventually Gamma etc..
Full release (Hopefully now without any bugs.)

[happy]

Thats a tad simplistic, but generally yes it would follow that structure.

However Alpha 2 will not be about adding more content, it will be about the terrain editor more than anything else.

The way I see it is more like:

Alpha 1 (Initial content)
Alpha 2 (Terrain Editing)
Alpha 3 (More content & Basic sharing - network infrastructure)

Beta 1 (Basic simulation)
Beta 2 (More content, More simulation)
Beta 3 (Complete simulation)
Beta 4 (Gameplay scenarios, tutorials etc. Final pass on graphics)

Gamma (Pre release - Final check)

Full release (Its Fronter - So it will have bugs! [pirate])

Thanks Joel.

I personally am looking forward to the management side of things most. I know it hasn't been confirmed for any of the Alphas (not sure where some of you got that from??), but obviously it'll be in the final game. I'm not at all creative, and I like managing parks more than spending hours getting the angle of a wall just so hehe. Not that I don't realise that it takes a lot of skill to do these things, I just don't have the time or the patience!

In a similar vein, I hope we'll get a ton of 'coasters that we can just stick down provided we have the cash/space etc.

You're welcome. [happy]

I am personally looking forward to the managing aspect of the game as well. I hope we get some great features to get the most out of guests pockets (money) and that we can manage staff in a way more advanced than ever before in a theme park simulation game.

So probably late November early December is the goal they've set for when they want to have a completed product out...

I will be very surprised if the game is 'finished' in November / December. We will probably get sandbox by then, with a basic simulation. But I doubt all the 'niceties' will be ready for release (scenarios, tutorials etc.).

This is my main concern with Planet Coaster currently, 6 months just ins't enough time.

Erm, you're making out as if they haven't even started work on those features? 6 months is plenty of time to have the above ready for a full release.

Erm, ask the developers behind the other game whether 6 months is enough time...

I wouldn't be surprised if the game is delayed a bit, it seems to be the norm for games these days. So long as they are honest about it, keep the hype up and don't try to rush out a game that clearly isn't finished.

Did I say that? Did I ..... ??

I just stated that some things might not make release, we have no idea how many people are working on what of course, regardless 6 months in games development is nothing.

I would rather the game be delayed and released 'feature complete' than stuff coming out months later (see Streetfighter V as a current example of how not to do it). Whilst the current state of the game is great, and I truly believe this game is going to be massive, gamers are getting real tired of games releasing in an incomplete state.

Its a valid concern.

I'm pretty sure that they've started working on management etc...but only Frontier knows for sure ;)

Just because they haven't showed it to us doesn't mean it is not far along in its progress.

I know in one of the videos from an interview there was money ticking up as peeps spent it. So they are working on the game in a chuck but what they release to us is the roadmap.

a game can obviously be delayed. especially if they show us something that we reject in mass. But one can't worry about only 6 months left by what they have shown. We have no way to know how close it actually is to being the release version right now.

It's just a possable for the game to be completely done except for polishing and fine tuning with some tweaks from our wish lists as it is for them to be behind.

I will say that they have seen the fiasco of the "other games" release. My guess is that if they were expecting a possible delay they would already start getting us ready for it so it wouldn't blind side us. they would start changing their wordage. We are going to release 4th quarter, we are shooting for a 4th quarter release, we are still hoping for a 4th quarter release, it will either be 4th quarter or early next year.

I agree

Frontier have a way of working and delivering. Take the Wendigo for example... it was shown as concept art and in game well before Alpha 1 was even released
