Robigo Mines - The "Robigo Run" - A Beginner's Primer - "Wall o' Text" version

This is beginners primer for CMDRs wanting an Easy Button for the Robigo Mines/Sirius Atmospherics Tourist Beacon in Sothis system passenger grind for credits. There is very decent credit to be earned for a confident, brave and competent CMDR in a properly fitted ship who is willing to take some risks.

The run consists of stacking "illegal" (i.e.: WANTED criminal kingpins and etc.) passenger missions, taking those passengers to witness the wonder of the Sirius Atmospherics Beacon, passively scanning the beacon using your ship sensors and returning your passengers to Robigo Mines without your ship getting scanned or otherwise interfered with. Sounds simple enough and it is, if you are good enough, if you are fast enough and if you are slick enough.

Your Robigo Run story begins in the bubble, or it should, with a Python. If you do not have a Python you can do the run in a smaller ship but earnings will be sharply reduced. The Python is the highest passenger capacity medium-landing-pad capable ship which will maximize profit per trip and reduce grinding time. Incidentally, when your Robigo story ends and you have earned "enough" credit stop off in Sothis system, Newholm Station and pick up a cargo hold full of Sothis Crystalline Gold, a rare commodity. Haul it back to the bubble, pirates chasing you the whole way, to sell for a very decent amount of profit back in the bubble.

Anyhow, start with a Python. This will be a specialized build, for this job: A-rated FSD module (extended range mod, mass manager effect); D-rated everything else, as much as possible (all modified for lightweight or stripped down wherever possible) and a minimum size D-rated shield generator, just for landings since we are definitely not looking for combat. On that note, no weapons, they're heavy. The (likely) larger slot that the shield generator would normally be installed in will go to another passenger cabin. Put an A-rated fuel scoop in the largest optional slot but purchase a business-class cabin the same size as the fuel scoop and store it. Later you will transfer this passenger cabin to Robigo system to replace your fuel scoop (mo' money). The rest of the optional slots go to business-class cabins and one or two small first-class cabins. Criminal kingpins do not fly in economy-class and they do not share cabins with anyone else but their crew.

That's it. No cargo racks, no shield boosters, no scanners or training wheels. Absolutely nothing that is not needed. The goal is to make it from Robigo Mines to Sothis System in two jumps, in a Python loaded with passengers and returning without scooping fuel. You must get into the habit of BUYINB FUEL FIRST THING ON LANDING, each and every trip.

Fly your Python to HAUSER'S REACH in Robigo system to start your run. Store your fuel scoop and TRANSFER the passenger cabin you stored back in the bubble to Hauser's Reach. While you wait for the passenger cabin to be transferred maybe take a trip empty, from Hauser's Reach to Sothis and back to familiarize yourself with the trip. Running this type of mission from Hauser's Reach will make you appreciate the shorter distance to Robigo mines later but, BE CAREFUL you do not accept any "illegal passenger" missions at his point, as security is VERY tight at Hauser's Reach and you do not want to get scanned with an illegal passenger aboard. That would be bad.

The run itself is simple. Plot a course to the Sothis system, it should plot as 2 jumps. If it plots as 3 jumps there is likely something wrong in your outfitting, your ship should make it in 2 jumps. The Sirius Atmospherics beacon is located in Sothis system, planet A5. Target the planet and when you get within 1000 LS the Sirius Atmo beacon will show up in the HUD and in the NAV panel. Drop out of supercruise at the beacon, point your ship at the beacon, designate the beacon as a target and your ship should scan it. When the scan completes, plot a course and return to your point of departure.

So you have returned to Hauser's Reach and your passenger cabin has arrived. Fit it into the slot your fuel scoop was in and fly to the Robigo Mines outpost. The selection of passenger missions to the beacon will be limited until you reach ALLIED rep with all of the local factions at Robigo Mines. Consider accepting mission payments in REP until you are ALLIED with all the local factions.

The money is in running passenger missions for "illegal" passengers but, early on you might not be able to be picky (REP) so take ANY passenger mission to the beacon, stacking as many as possible. You will likely not fill your ship until your REP builds a bit so when you have accepted as many missions as are available, SPLIT!

The trick here is speed. Get in, scan da beacon, get back to Robigo Mines, GET FUEL!, get paid (and don't get scanned). Rinse, Repeat. Don't get scanned because criminals hate getting scanned and you will at best fail a bunch of missions. At worst, your ship will get blown out of space because you have no weapons and weak shields and local security wants that criminal aboard your ship dead. So Get Fast and Do Not Get Scanned.

Once you have enough local REP and can fill your ship with missions, switch to payment in credits to maximize profit. When you are finished and want to return to the bubble do not forget to go to Hauser's Reach and get your fuel scoop. o7

I found it not worth carrying business class cabins. My Robigo runner has only eco cabins no larger than class 5. There are no missions for larger groups than 16. These pay around 5M. With 5 of them and 4 smaller groups ideally filling every seat, 30M can be made with a 7-minute run, iirc.

I fit Business-class in the size 6 slots and Economy in the smaller ones. You never need the 32-person capacity of a size 6 Economy, but some of your passenges do insist on Business-class.

And when Robigo Mines runs out of well-paying misions, you can switch to Siranotovic's Legacy for awhile.

Addenum: a heat sink launcher is nice to have because firing a heat sink stops a scan.
So if you see "scan detected" on the hud/ hear it, fire a sink. Voila, scan is cut off, and no angry passengers.
I did many of these runs in the past, when saving up to buy a FC, and was never scanned at Robigo Mines. However, I would equip heat sinks anyway just in case you need them elsewhere or you get too close to a star.

From robigo/ceos I miss only thing, there was really nice missions of hauling illegal cargo back to bubble. If you stacked 10 or 15 of em, you had quite of tail chasing you every jump, and all missions was failed if you let get scanned by chasing ships. Good times. It was really challenging at that time, it payed very well. Too bad there is no missions like that anymore.
But it was before engineers, so apart of myself, no one else might know what it was about.

Deploy hardpoints also stops the scan in progress...you need to retract them asap...

Was wondering if that was so, because someone said it did for guards in Odyssey, but only once, and it was indeed the case (this doesn't mean that if you do it a second time, the scan won't end. It means that they will immediately begin shooting at you).

Presumably supercruise resets the instance, so that will always work while docking.

Ran a few of those in my Dolphin (legal ones), but then got the itch to go exploring again (only thing at which I'm Elite)

Stopped reading when the prereq gear came up. I couldnt even afford A class FSD. What good is the run if you have to grind to get a ship so you can grind some more?
Get the double-engineered Class 5 FSD from a tech broker; that only costs materials. You can do this in any small or medium ship you like, but the Python set up as described will get the most missions and therefore the most money (or G5 mats) per trip - at least 22-25 million.
Is it worth having a Guardian FDS booster or is that just a waste of a class 5 slot?
You're trying to achieve a jump range of 31-32 ly, longer than that is wasted. If engineering the FSD and lightening everything you can doesn't get you that far then fit the smallest booster that will get you the range. My Python was set up before I'd unlocked many engineers so it has the double-engineered FSD mentioned above and a Class 2 Guardian booster.

I have a First and 2 Business class cabins in the size 6 slots and then Economy in the size 5s and smaller. I frequently get Business passengers and occasionally First

I'd also recommend setting up bookmarks named to appear at the top of your list for Robigo Mines and Sothis A5. You should be able to have Robigo selected and ready to jump back before you've finished scanning the tourist beacon.

And lastly, do this in Solo to reduce the chances of being pad-blocked at Robigo's only Medium pad.

You don't have to start with a Python. If you're short of cash, a T6 will do. Fit a size 5 Business cabin, then as many Economy cabins as you can manage.

Not as good as a Python, but you will soon be able to afford one.

The other benefits of the Robigo passenger run:

- you get allied status with Sirius corporation which is a prequisite for ding business with the engineer Marco Gwent.

- once you have allied status with all factions by taking the best Rep++ rewards, take rewards offering Biotech Conductors, Modified Embedded Firmware and Exquisite Focus Crystal rewards. Get your engineering materials collection off to a flying start while collecting 100s of millions of credits.

I remember those, hauling poop 35-40 jumps back to the bubble in a python and later 15 jumps in an Anaconda. o7
