Rock Rat Rescue

This looks like a plausible route using no more than standard jumps. Distances are approximate but I've tried to err on the high side! Do check!!

Pyrooe Eork zm-q d6-042
Pyrooe Eork yz-g c13-049
Pyrooe Eork zz-g c13-051
Pyrooe Eork vg-s d5-212
Ooctas ii-b c13-044
Ooctas gi-b c13-0

I'm not entirely sure, but I think there should be a route that approaches his position from the north and a bit above that wouldn't require more than a few basic boosts. Got to go & cut the rest of the lawn, but I can look a bit harder later on if you need it.

Wow.

How on Earth did you manage to plot that????

I'm back in the bubble so I could adjust my loadout to approximate your jump range. Then it's just a case of using the 'hats' that show on adjacent stars if they are within the jump range of the star you've just clicked on (the cargo slider helps to approximate the distances). I also double checked the distances by using the approximate co-ords from the map and using good old Pythagoras.

I've had a fair bit of practice at finding such routes when planning for trips to the outer edges. It's actually much easier now that I know about the hats. How did so many of us miss that for so long?!

I made it :)

In the end, impatience took hold and I worked 'round to a system that was a couple of premiums away from the goal. Just spent the last couple of hours prospecting with Nightstrider - got enough Vanadium to get him out, but we're going to try again tomorrow night to get more premium mats (if we find them) so he has a safety net.

Did you know that if you use the ADS (honk) you can HEAR it from outside?!?! :D I had a honking Asp up my backside while I was tooling around the surface :)

Also - apparently jumping more than 50m in the air is an open invite for a Asp to fly underneath you on full boost [hotas] Who knew?

Just to quickly add a rather splendid image I captured while watching materials being scooped up:

Since there can't be any atmosphere if you were on the surface then that's just wrong.

Did you have a voice comms channel open? If you didn't then I'm disappointed by that.

The honk was mentioned in the 2.1 notes.
Since we shouldn't hear engines in space either, I guess your ship/srv fabricates the sound on your behalf and now detects and replicates the honk too.

Engines are one thing. The honk, though....

Since it scans a whole system at far above lightspeed, it has to use some principle as yet unknown,
Assuming it uses known or at least guessed-at physics, though, it may work with gravity waves. In which case your ship may very well make the honk audible, like a bell struck with a hammer.

I just thought it was hilarious :D

I was bouncing around the surface and suddenly there was this HOOOOONNNNKKKK!!!!

"Did you just use the ADS????"

"Yep"

"I heard that!!!"

HHHHOOOOONNNKKKKK!!!!

HHHHOOOOONNNKKKKK!!!!

HHHHOOOOONNNKKKKK!!!!

"Oh for the love of God...."

I always thought discovery scanners were passive tools analyzing any kind of radiation and stuff and make educated guesses about the astronomical objects based on those results. Just as we do on earth with our telescopes.

Well, the good news is that Nightstrider got his SRV back, so the main panic is over...

The not so good news is that he's still short of Germanium

The great news is I found loads on planet 5 in the Ooctas LO-Z c13-0 system :)

I'm just trying to see if I can replace the mats used getting to him... really all I am short of is Niobium (only got 68) and that was on planet 3.

Pardon the stupid question(s)... but can you transfer materials? If so, how? If not, what are you intending to do?

Intending to prospect in the hope that we find the right materials to get him out of there.

But how will you give the materials to him? I thought he didn't have an SRV (presumably due to accident). I was under the impression that materials cannot be transferred from one CMDR to another.

Subspace pulse. Just sayin'
You know... as a daft activity at the reunion that's not a bad idea :D
Preferably while everyone is at a safe altitude.[woah]

Now I'm really confused.

I prospect for the materials, and he picks them up with his ship.

He lost his SRV when they were being replaced but didn't sign on for a couple of weeks. When he signed back in: no SRV and no prospecting while in desperate need of jump materials. He put in a call to support hoping to pluck a few heartstrings and it finally worked. The problem was that 2 days had gone by with no answer and he was still stuck in the system. The call for help went out and I answered.

A note for Nightstrider:

OOCTAS LO-Z C13-0
1 Vanadium
2 Vanadium, Niobium
4 Hellish place with nothing
5 Germanium
6 Cadmium

I'm now prospecting some of the neighbouring systems for other mats. Actually got enough j1 materials for 40 jumps now :)

He shot rocks and targets the wants i need i come in and surface scoop with the asp.

It's like ballet

Just got back from work. I'll jump on after food and mine some.
