Rogue System. Color me interested...

Yeah, no. My life is plenty complicated without having to learn all those buttons.

I like it so much that I spent $300 on the pledge :) however I hope ED also will give the SIM players a bit more complexity.

Oh, SC and ED is not hardcore for sure, and SC is as of now more arcady with mouse+aim crap.

As I said in another thread:

I wouldn't mind a slightly less complicated optional version of that if FD ever got some spare time to add it in, without taking away staff from more important parts of the game that is. Something like a setting in the options that was Classic or Advanced Cockpit, which defaulted to classic - how it is now.

The only gripe I have with the game is that the ship is as well designed as... one of those cucumber shaped leisure things people like to put where the sun never shines (I didn't know if the D word would get me moderated :p)

The mouse+aim crap is the sole reason I regret ever supporting SC and also why I don't bother playing it. It kills the entire game for me with the ridiculous imbalance it creates.

As for Rogue System... Falcom BMS in space! I can't wait.

Is the D word appropriate for a family forum and for discussing a space game? If not, then it would be moderated.

I saw the Scott Manley (I could just listen to that guy reading the financial report) video about it and I must say that I'm very interested, which is kind of odd because I've never been that interested in stuff like DCS, but for some reason the space travel angle really piqued my interest.
Just to clarify, the video I'm talking about was about Rogue System, not d... uh, doilies.

Anyway, I like that the guy making RS (his name escapes me right now) is putting a lot of effort into making everything appear realistic and believable. I'd love it if he could somehow include voice commands for talking with the control towers, stuff like actually saying "45-3453 checking in" or whatever instead of choosing it from a list.

edit: I didn't realise the video embedded by OP was actually the Scott Manley one (I didn't watch it before I wrote my reply)

After enjoying the game for a few days I can say that in all honesty, RougSys (as right now) might seem complicated and compared to ED it is.
But compared to games like Falcon and DCS its actually very manageable. Simple, even!

There are a bunch of systems you will have to learn what they do, how they function and how you can control them.
Much of it will however be controlled by the ships AI (not implemented yet) and at its simplest you will have to learn how to start the ship, then the AI will more or less take over.

The interesting part though is that while the AI will react to faults and warnings, and help with various other systems, it will react according to predetermined pattern of analysis. This pattern might not always be the best option depending on your current situation and unless you know how to do these things yourself, youll be in trouble.
And of course, this AI might malfunction leaving you with ONLY manual input.

The game is really enjoyable, I hope that the designer will be able to hire some people to make nice ship designs that are interesting. The hmm D.... Design is kind of hmmm lets say, hopefully WIP.

They will likely change but it wont be to the hollwood style we have in ED and SC but to something that would be considered practical and cost efficient.
So most likely they will still look far from what we are used to :)

I just had to back this. I remember writing some custom .dll's for OrbiterSim so that I could try to add features that would take it where this guy is going. I just didn't have the time or skill to follow it up.
I think this guy would be better trying to use something like the OrbiterSim engine than Leadwerks but even so a lot depends on how engine-dependent his back-end is. With enough funding this could be amazing. I really wanted ED to go a bit more down this road with the ship sim angle but I can see why they didn't.
