Ross 128 situation

I would feel much better about the whole thing, both RP and game-wise, if it wasn't done by phoney baloney exploits - and that is what I call ranking to Ensign with the Feds to make it happen (game-wise) and that the Federation would just say "okay" (RP) and let this stand. Hence the Permit.

If it was all done in a "realistic manner" (remembering this is a space ship game obviously) then yes indeed there is great potential for fun and a battle royale. Now it's just gamey.

It reeks of artificial and forced gameplay by a group that has too much time on their hands and not enough ingenuity.
That's just my opinion of course.

I can understand you don't like the game mechanic around this, and that it feels gamey to you.

But the whole expansion mechanic and rank progression simply is gamey, and we all have to deal with that if we play the game.

But it's not that we looked for and found a exploit and thought lets go exploit it, we expanded our faction to the hart of fed space to create a hopefully fun conflict with a opposing SP and found it possible to take a permit recquired system. (Exploit or not is was allot of work for allot of ppl to get those permits)

The BGS is very limited(compared with the politics one might expect in a interstellar civilisation) and especially so for the Alliance.
Now I'm not going to claim that lore wise the Alliance is all good and doesn't forcefully take over systems.. it does, but in general they mostly convert native factions to the Alliance by diplomatic means.(which could still be underhanded, sneaky and backstaby)

Playing this lore accurate way simply isn't possible at the moment, so we do what we can with what we do have.

Hopefully it will change in the future, but who knows perhaps FD plans the Alliance to be what Cerberus turned out the be in mass effect and it will be whiped out. (Would explain the lack of content for it)

Anyway we did our best to soften the gamey feel by creating some plausible RP grounded in official lore.

I hope disatisfaction with the gamey feel of this situation will subside for you and that you can start enjoying your RP disatisfaction a bit.

(Sorry for the spelling, but I'm typing on my phone again ;-) )

Thank you for the post.
Now that all parties seem to understand each other (on here anyway) I find your explanation a refreshing change.
Guess we have to make hay, or fight, with the tools provided.
Normally I would end with "Cya in the combat zones" but unless you like to lag and rubber-band around an Open instance I will have to do any "combat" with my trade ship.
Now with that said...may the best faction win!

Good to hear.
And I do pvp with a friend from New Zealand so I'm used to lag, but yea rubber banding kinda sucks the fun out of it.
