Route to Rosette Nebula

I am currently at the Orion Nebula Tourist Centre in the PMD2009 48 system and attempting to head towards the Rosette Nebula primarily to gain access to Professor Palin prior to the introduction of the Thargoids. I am having trouble plotting a segment less than 1000ly from this point on and there seem to be many more permitted systems than I had envisaged.

My jump range is just over 30ly and I am trying to plot using scoopable stars - is this unfeasible? I have read that others have used the California Nebula route rather than via Barnard's Loop route which I am attempting.

Any waypoint suggestions would be most appreciated if available. I was intending to head towards the Seagull Nebula en route.

Don't go that way. Since the Col 70 Sector is completely locked it's almost impossible to cross Barnard's Loop. If I were you I would back off towards Witchhead Nebula, then "flank" the sector from the "left side" (looking from the direction of the bubble). I was in the Rosette Nebula once and I first went to VY Canis Majoris, then out towards the edge of the galaxy. Sadly I don't think there's a shorter route, you have to circle around the Col 70 Sector systems.

Thanks. I had a feeling that there must be an easier route! It did seem like there was a band of permitted systems pretty much blocking the way. I knew about the Col 70 Sector systems being a problem, but there were at least a couple of other system groups causing problems.

From Orion nebula you can pass through the loop to Orion Dark Region and then on to the big sausage at NGC 2168, but I don't know how far out Col 70 goes. I know it stretches to Cone nebula. But you should be able to cut across to Rosette when you get that far out

I just looked at my visited stars, and it looks like I went from NGC 1999 to Orion Dark Region, passing over the top of Orion Nebula

The Col 70 Sector is unusually huge and it really bothers me that it's locked. I don't understand why, either. Who stops a pilot from entering that system, and if it needs a permit who issues it? Humans? Then why is it unknown? It makes no sense from a role-playing standpoint.

Elite Premonition Spoiler below:

Well, Elite Premonition tells us that it's not the Pilot's Federation who permit lock these particular sectors. It could either be The Club - who have a hand in everything - preventing us from accidentally running into the Thargoids in that sector, or it could even be something automatic due to our FSDs being reverse engineered from Thargoid technology.
But other organisations besides the Pilot's Federation are able to lock off systems - Wreaken Construction operate a shipyard in the Col 70 Sector, so it could be them possibly.

I was stuck there about a year and a half ago, took me quite some time to backtrack my way out of the area. My fingernails are still regrowing from it. Good luck.
