Routing Failed

Not sure if this is the place to post this but here goes.

I am trying to fill out my Codex and it has me going to a C star (not CJ, CN, or, the other C's). Codex says there is one reported at HD 173138 but the map isn't allowing me to get to it even when I'm right next door. I am currently in the Inner Orion-Perseus Conflux. Please help

HD 173138 is way below the galactic plane and by the looks of things isn't actually reacheable, even with a fleet carrier. So the route plotter is failing simply because there is no way to reach that star using game mechanics. Also, the route plotter doesn't really perform too well in areas of the galaxy with low star density (for example high/low on the galactic plane) so if you're trying to get to a location there, it's best to plot short distances or manually.

Edit: Turns out someone has got there, likely with a carrier. Regardless, it's still too far out for the route plotter to work.

In the case of HD 173138, it is a star which exists IRL which explains why it's so far out of the galactic plane. There's a few neutron star clusters like this in game too and unfortunately, unless they are within the 500ly jump range of fleet carriers, they are simply just not accessible.

Umm, it's a long way to the next nearest star, you will probably find it's out of jump range, how far away does it tell you it is when you select it?

It has been reached or it wouldn't be in the Codex, apparently CMDR FLAGG1900 has managed to get there, it does look like a Fleet Carrier visit, I think I spotted a star around 300ly away so it should be possible, but only with a FC.

Apologies, I misread the post and didn't realise it had been recorded in the codex. In that case, it must be only accessible with a fleet carrier.

Not sure if this will help your search OP, but there's a list of Carbon Stars (C) which you could use to find one. Alternatively, if you're looking to reach that one specifically, you could enlist the help of someone with a carrier?

Thanks. I'm just going to leave it blank for now. I've spent too many days in this sector already and need to move on to the next one. This one is getting old. Lol

There are 163 C-class stars within 5000 listed in EDSM: https://www.edsm.net/en/search/bodies/index/group/1/radius/5000/sortBy/distanceSol/type/32

Unfortunately, it doesn't filter by region, so it can't find stars in specific regions, but if you log on to EDSM yourself and set the filter to "from commander position", instead of "from Sol", then you can get a list of the nearest ones to your current location. But most of the C class stars are goign to be quite close to Sol; since this star class is not included in the Stellar Forge generator, all C class stars are hand-made, copied-from-catalogue stars.
