General / Off-Topic running Linux on windows 11

I am trying to get a linux distro to run on windows 11 dell. I have tried direct live boot and using a virtual machine. No use. Any ideas thanks

You don't give any details about the type of Dell, which distro you are trying, or the virtual machine platform... or any errors.

Start from the top; what is your experience level with VMs and live-booting? (so I don't patronise you!)
Have you had USB boot working before? (on that machine)
What VM platform? Oracle, VMware?
And those pesky errors?

usualy i just put the live disk in and boot to that

its a modern dell desktop with uefi

oracle vmware

just s hangs
or setup error on live boot

Does it matter what version of Windows then? This sounds more like a hardware / firmware issue if your laptop won't boot external storage.

Turn off secure boot? Enable CSM?

Tried Windows Subsystem for Linux?
Or at least virtualization activated in BIOS/UEFI setup (if you insist; seems like this may be the case).

Safeboot would rather throw an error than just freeze the whole system.

Linux now installs. Having an up to date compatible distro helped a lot.
