Since S&R was announced I was thinking of a way to make it more interesting than searching or USS. As FD showed us with the Alien structures, they can make great structures that you can drive by, and that is something that can really add to the game in many ways, so here's my idea:
Like they did with the generation ships, they could add large structures spawnable as USS that could be explored only by SLF, wich could be a new type of "Scavenger" SLF, capable of minor cargo transport like the SRV. Waves of npc ships could spawn while the scavenger is doing its job, making it more interesting.
As a side note, those new SLF coud have a short range sensor only, needing the mothership to pinpoint how close they are from the cannister. That would make the gunner role needed, since the pilot will be helping the scavenger.
I can see that in plantary surfaces too, using SRV, SLF or both.
