General Safe way to acces the menu

I suggest a safe way to access the menu without the risk to have your ship attacked or destroyed

If you stop to think this is already possible when i quit the game, did menu settings, and log back.

So why i cant do that staying in the game? Its the same protocol but staying in the game i dont need to wait the loading scream to go back.

Frontier can use the same rules used when we try to log off. Nowadays is not possible logoff if you are in dangerous, you need wait at least some seconds to do that.

Other possibility is to create an option (for who want) to "automatic close menu and go back imediatly to the cockpit if your ship is under attack". I will put this on for sure.

Thank you all for the WHATs and comments. Because of this I could figured out what is the essence of my problem and suggestion.

I think the major problem is the issue/mess of update controls. I customize them and when there is an update the game doesn't tell me what new features are without marked buttons so I need to reset and configure everything again.

Its take a lot of time and i want to play, not stop to do that, so I customize it little by little while i am playing, because that I enter and leave the menu several times and eventually in bad moments. It could have an easier way to configure the new controls update without reset everything,

A way to do that is the game show you:

A) a list of new features without a selected button to you fill it

And when you click in the new feature

B) a list of "no used buttons" where you could put the new features. Because its hard to remember every button and the message "this button is already in use" doesn't help very much

Instead of resetting all the custom controls to cutomized then this could be more easy.

Hmm, I don't need to log out to customise my controls.. I just did it - actually I switched from my HOTAS profile to a KB and M profile, played and then swapped back.. No issues. If you want/need to test, use a Training Scenario as Lestat suggested.

Ignoring the fact this is a non-issue, how exactly would this work? Would you stay in the same place in game, just invulnerable, or would you be moved to your own instance? Neither seems like a great use of resources - and the first seems like an opportunity to cheat.

EDIT: I almost always use custom bindings for games, so I've long been in the habit of backing up my bindings - since I played Duke3D.

You misunderstand, the OP is well aware of being able to customise his controls while being logged into the game, what he wants is to be safe while customising his controls while still logged into the game, so he wants an indestructible mode while he is adjusting his controls, rather than having to log out to the main menu to be safe.

I would prefer that FDev not waste development time on stupid problems that aren't really problems because there are obvious solutions for people with common sense.

SET UP YOUR CONTROLS IN SOLO MODE OUTSIDE A STATION, CMDR BRILLIANT.

If you're losing your key bindings after updates then there are many tutorials on the forum to tell you how to back them up. If you're issue is new controls that have been added any important ones are marked with a warning in the options menu. No need to be in the game to sort any of the controls.

This kind of thing is reponsible for many negative comment in Steam. People maybe dont buy the game because little things like that and it impact the development and the future of the entire game.

Besides, it is in alfa, not in beta to developers focus in big things and forgot the little ones.

I work with front page software development so why do you prefer click in one thing 10 time with risk than solve the problem by a safe way with one or two clicks? If you convince my clients of otherwise I change my carrier.

In time, i believe we wish the same: a nice and beautiful game to everybody play.

This is an MMO, as long as you are logged into the game you are subject to the game effects, I don't see how hard that is to understand. It's like going into your inventory or settings in LOTRO and complaining because a mob killed you, why aren't you safe in a menu or your inventory? Because you are still logged into the game. How hard is this to understand? Entering a menu in an MMO doesn't take you out of the game world. Everyone who plays MMO's understands this.

I think you need to use your software developers skill and go back to the basics. Go to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings and copy and save binding that works for you. Then edit the main one and something screws up you can go back and load the old Binding starting fresh.

Now I as well as other people pointed out ways you can adjust your Binding without risk of being an attack by players or NPC. It just you ignore our posts. Let view them again. Near a station in solo mode as long as you are not wanted. Also in-game training simulator. Which give you an area where you have no risk of dying and frontier don't have to change the game just to float your boat.

I agree. This topic started with the safe menu idea but i change the original suggestion

1) Do you really think is healthy to the game project, Frontier sell the game only for who have software developer skills ?

2) Now, as you as other people didn't read all the topic i will repeat it again. I change my mind about safe menu idea and I did another suggestion as you can see here:

Friend, you should ask for this thread to be locked and start over. No one is going to read through numerous comments to find an updated suggestion buried in a post halfway through the thread.

Also, it might be helpful for you to post in the relevant section for your native language, if there is one.
