I found this thread after a bit of searching, which seems to indicate the modules are indeed trashed aka gone:

No worries, by a matter of chance I managed to find a landable planet only a few LY away from a star. Landed and RNGesus smiled on me... enough vanadium for half a dozen recharges of the AFMU. So have changed course back to the Bubble and *cautious* use of neutrons. I think the one that caught me out was in a system with a normal star close by. The gravity seems to focus the tail into more of a cone as opposed to the wispy effect on its own. Stay sharp, alert and yank that joystick hard as soon as you materialize from Witchspace.
