Saitek x45 Throttle problems, please Help

Just installed Elite Dangerous, heard I can use my X45 HOTAS. Went to reconfigure the controls so i can use it. Managed to configure all the buttons and stick option, but when i come to set the Decrease Throttle setting it wont accept it. I can set the Increase Throttle by pushing the throttle forward, but when i pull it back to set the Decrease Throttle nothing happens. I checked all the controls in the Saitek X45 control panel and it works just fine. But it doesnt in the game. Any help would be welcome.

I purchased ED on PC after playing several years on PS4 with a T-Flight HOTAS. I figured I would use my old X45 setup to play, but it was a huge pain to get axes working right. I eventually discovered that several buttons were worn out as well, and gave up at that point. During the learning process, I did discover the power of Joystick Gremlin. That would probably help tremendously if you still have a fully functional X45. The setup and configuration of Joystick Gremlin can feel quite overwhelming at first. Once you get used to it, it's actually quite easy to use.

In my case, I just used the T-Flight until I could obtain better. I still used Joystick Gremlin for the entire time I played ED on PC, even with Virpil gear.

I think the issue is that the @Mark7dii should assign the throttle JoyU axis to the Flight Throttle Axis:

At the moment they seem to be trying to assign it to a digital input (button press).

That throttle looks to have a real plethora of controls available, should be great in the game.

WHen I assign it to the JoyU axis it says +_JoyU when i push it forward, but nothing happens when i pull it back. If i go to the Saitek Control Panel it shows that JoyU is working.

Going to look up Joystick Gremlin, to see if that work. Thx.

If you select it as an axis - that is it. Remember to set it to full-range (if it is a centring control) and not forward only (which is what I use with a button as reverse). Mind you, I am not using an X45 - but an axis is an axis.

Well that sort of work. Thx. I am wondering now if i have a phyisical problem with the throttle. Having done what you said it worked, but when i push the throttle forward it decreases the by three quarters 33% and when i pull it back it increases it 100%.
I wonder if i need a new HOTAS.

1. Calibrate in Windows Game Controllers.

2. Change the throttle axis setting in the game to opposite of "Inverted" (regular / normal - I can't remember the wording) - or of course set to Inverted if it is set otherwise at the moment.

This is getting to be a joke. The throttle controller is now not working at all ingame. But it still works in the Saitek Controller Control Panel. !!!!!!!

As others here have said, you don't want to bind "Increase Throttle" and "Decrease Throttle" to your controller at all. Those are for digital inputs and work well with a keyboard, for example. Your throttle works differently.

When you push your throttle forward or backward, you move it along an axis. Bind this axis to "Throttle Axis" in the control options. Just take a look at my screenshot, it should look very similar in your case. (Except the throttle axis on your controller is called U-Axis, not Z-Axis like in my case.)

Set "Throttle Axis Range" to "Full Range", as @Fnord Velkor has said. That means that your ship stays still when your throttle is centered, moves backward when you pull your throttle back, and moves forward when you push your throttle to the front. If those movements are reversed, just choose "Inverted" in the options.

All the other options that are visible in the screenshot can be left empty.

Maybe it is the Saitek app that is giving the issues, can you try disabling that? If you do as @Lhorndra and I tell you then you should be ok.

First of all - did you calibrate the joystick in Windows Game Controller settings? If you can see the axis move all the way back and forth in that then Elite should be able to see that too.

Now, in the Options / Controls page find the Flight Throttle settings as in the above screenshots - click in the box that has the mouse arrow in @Lhorndra's image - now when the panel opens that says move the axis - move your throttle.

Click apply, close options, run the game see if it works.

You may have to change the selection to or from "inverted" back in the options screen.

One other thing - do make sure you have no copies of your binds file in the same directory as that can cause changes you make in the controls page to not be saved.

Your bindings directory can be quickly accessed using the following:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

(There is a sticky at the top of this sub-forum about renaming and so protecting your assigned control bindings from being lost. PSA - Updates can cause bindings called "custom" to be lost - copy the bindings directory to a safe location before the update.)

EDIT:

P.S. The control assignment process in Elite Dangerous is atrocious - I mean seriously rubbish - here we are 8 years since launch and they still have not been able to find someone that can code a "Save As" button. Makes me despair.

fetched this dunno if will help try

I had the problem with my X45 calibrating fine in Windows 10, but in the sim the X & Y axes are stuck full to one side. I had this problem in DCS a few years ago and the same solution works here. Make sure you have the x45 legacy drivers, from Saitek:

First remove the USB plug for your controller from the PC.
Press and hold the Windows key on your keyboard and then press the letter R. This will open the Run box. Type regedit and then click ok.
The Registry Editor will have a list of folders on the left hand side. Go down into the following folders in order by clicking the + next to the folder name.
+CURRENT_USER +System +CurrentControlSet +Control +Media Properties +Private Properties +Direct Input
Delete any folder inside the Direct Input folder that begins VID_06A3.
Now, again with your stick unplugged, run the driver install, and follow the instructions, plugging in your stick when it tells you. Calibrate it and hopefully you will be good to go!

The other thing that can cause issues is not enough power to the controller - make sure to connect the controller to a POWERED hub and assuming that the controller is USB 2 make sure that the powered hub is connected to a usb 2 port on the computer especially if it is a USB 3 hub. USB should be backward compatible, but not always, and that can also cause issues.
