Saitek X52 Power failure

Hopefully one of the many commanders in game may have come across this problems and can offer me some advice.

I have had an X52 (not the pro version) for over 12 months and had no problems with it at all. I have been running the windows 7 drivers even though I have windows 10 and apart from a couple of key bind issues everything has been working well.

2 Weeks ago I upgraded my GTX650ti graphics card to a GTX970 and added an additional 8GB of PC memory for Horizons (Making 16GB). I have an 8 core AMD FX 8350 water cooled and everything running within sensible temperatures. Nothing else had changed on my system. The X52 ran fine and the game was smooth.

Over the last 3 nights, every time I plug in my X52 I get it to power up with everything operational. After about 10-20 seconds the stick completely looses power including the green power light at the bottom right of the stick. I have checked all the connections and all look fine and undamaged.

I have tried numerous connections on both USB3 and USB2 sockets and eventually it randomly stays on (tonight was one of the USB2 ports and last night was one of USB3 Ports). I have nothing new or different plugged into any of the other port and confident that it is not a power issue. When the stick finally stays on, it stays on fine for the rest of the evening and does not drop in and out like some of the reports I have read.

I have tried installing the new windows 10 drivers tonight but this has made no difference.

I think that it is a problem with the stick itself and would love to know if you think the same or am i just missing something and there is a fix for this.

If it is the stick, I guess it would have 12 months warrenty as I have had it 13 months now haha. If I am right, maybe its just a way to upgrade my hotas :p

If anyone has come across this or has any advice, I would be most grateful for replies as 20 mins out of my gameplay to get the stick to stay powered us is driving me crazy.

Many thanks in advance,
Flaxton

Hi DragonKnight,

Yes I have tried all of the obvious things and made sure the connections were all in tight. I am not using TS so thats not the culprit and as far as I am aware nothing new has been installed which could be problematic.

Some of the discussion was that the sticks loose power for a second or 2. Mine is different in that once it looses power, it stays powered down almost as though there is a sort after it boots or powers up. The whole stick is alight then 10-20 second laster it dies. Plug it in again and it goes through the same until it finally works. So weird which make me think it is the stick.

Thanks for the reply adn info though.

To verify if it is a driver issue, you could boot into an Ubuntu or Linux Mint live CD (or USB image). The Linux kernel has basic support for the Saitek HOTASes built in, so your LEDs should turn on. If they stay on, you likely have a driver issue. Otherwise, it could be the stick (most likely) or some other hardware issue.

Warranty by Saitek is 2 years in most countries.

A quick update guys on this one.

I think it may have been a recent windows 10 update that conflicted with the older drivers I was using. I went back onto the saitek website and redownloaded the latest windows 10 drivers and software. I then used the other X52 problem thread to do a complete fresh install of the drivers and software and so far the stick has stayed powered and fully working, including the couple of buttons which would not register on the older drivers. Fingers crossed the problem has been resolved and I can tell the wife that I dont need to shed out another £100 for my "Spaceship" game :D

Thanks again guys,

Windows after 8.1 onward introduced some power saving feature for USB (like saving 500mA on a desktop will save the planet  )

It caused my Thrustmaster MDF to constantly disconnect, and it took TM ages to release new drivers to resolve the issue.

Strange question but it worked for my X52. Do you happen to use Teamspeak while you play Elite? If so, go into the Hotkeys tab under the Settings menu. There's a little drop-down box that says "Default", but change that to "Keyboard and Mouse Only". It may just fix the problem, it did so for me for quite some time, until I got a new mobo/proc for Horizons and now that issue doesn't come up anymore (hardware is weird; w/e). TBH X52's are a finicky bunch, there's multiple accounts of X52's dying out pretty early, I'm surprised this one has lasted this long.

One of my internal wires came loose inside of the x52 (not pro) stick. After months of frustration, I threw it in the trash (no warranty for me as I bought years ago but used it one time). I hadn't used it in a long time and started using it heavily when I purchased Elite. I'm now in the market for a new stick but I have no idea what to get. The throttle works flawlessly.

Another fix that has worked for some of us, including me. Use the generic USB driver instead of the Saitek one. I have no menus, but I can assign the controls via the game itself.
