Salome : The Crux 2 - why didn't you take part ?

I did not want to go out that way when I had little chance of life... But, if I had known they were ending in Tionisla I would have jumped in. I was in Lave at that point... Very close...

I can't concentrate on it as much as I'd like, but my impression was either 'no' or 'not very'.

LOL neither can I as I'm at work but I dunno how you can be the guard in ships 10 times underpowered - not that it made a difference in this case as they couldn't even instance correctly in the end.

And then we have the beauty of "and all the rest of the protection wing can't be armed".

I must have misheard/misunderstood that...

Urgh. Sorry, not sure, plus I'm almost certainly wrong. But I definitely heard that some players were told not to arm. Which...yeah.

Try around 25 mins I just hit it. The no weapons was to show who was friendly so easy ID - they had a buffer zone and scouts so any player hitting that buffer they'd send armed ships to deal with I suppose

Ah, that sounds about right. Cheers.

Still a rather heavy-handed "we're in charge, you do what we say" thing to do though, IMHO.

It went down at 3am where I live.

A couple of hours before that, though, I was checking all the super secret listening post logs in Teorge, and adding them to my "Verara" logs. So I went to bed happy. Can't stop the signal! lol

According to posts on another thread by one of the guys who was in one of these wings, the "we're in charge, do what we say" stuff was actually coming from SDC members in the public channel on the Discord group. The leadership of PAC had merely kindly requested to people that if they were coming armed, they should register with the discord, and if not, it would be helpful if they could come unarmed.

The was it was described was that some SDC members were constantly trolling the public channel with that stuff in the days leading up to the event. PAC didn't want SDC to necessarily know that in fact they weren't trusted whatsoever, so they probably didn't want to put out any statements against what SDC was doing.

The heavy handed stuff was allegedly part of SDCs plan, possibly even to drive people away so they themselves had more chance to get the killing shots. This is where I actually do have a beef with SDC - I don't have an issue with what they did in the game, or even with their attempts to infiltrate (open) groups etc - however some of what they do outside the game sometimes feels like it is specifically designed to harm the event or the game in general by discouraging general players from taking part.

I wanted to get involved, and I did try.
Unfortunately, none of the people I spoke to in game really had much info on what to do. We kept jumping around different systems that we heard about on the live streams, but never came across Salome or her buddies.
For me it was a glorious waste of 3 hours of my time.

What was even more frustrating was finding out a day later in Obsidian Ant's video, that there was a special menu option added into the game by FD for the event, where you could choose sides.
Well that's just great. I had no idea about this at all, if I had knowm, perhaps it would've gone better for me.

I do love ED, I'll never stop playing it, but the way you have to scour the net for game info is very frustrating. It seems that unless you spend a stupid amount of time trawling forums or reddit, you will miss out at some point.

The YT vids are my favorite source for info, cos it's quick and to the point, but those guys are not psycic despite best efforts.

A better delivery system for game info is much needed.

Maybe - they had 3000+ people to organise so IDK. Not sure of the details of the mission and all that so hard to say how to handle it. Maybe it was easier to go that way because people generally can't listen to stuff and mess up all the time which makes a nightmare.

well I was on my way back from Jacques station I had started to rush back but then saw the non known ( or infamous ) Player killers will be shot down posts somewhere and am taking my time back now lol

I wasn't interested. Elite is supposed to be a game where we make our own stories, not a game where some writer foists a story onto us just because he wants to sell a book or two...

If that's your reason for not participating, fair enough, but doesn't the fact that you were free not to participate mean that it's a little unfair to say the event is being 'foisted' upon you?

The author, Drew Wagar has his own Elite account - he's a player in the same ways you and I are.
I would say that mining alone is an in-game event, and arranging with friends to wing up is an in-game event that has been publicised. Then you have Josh Hawkins style events publicised over YouTube and twitch - high participation, widely known-about, but still just players making their own story.
It seems to me that one player, Drew Wagar, is making his own story to the extreme, so much so that he's looking for ways to weave other, real people into his story..... And he's doing it by using his game, to host an event with any one of three out comes (none of them make it, some of them make it, all of them make it) to steer the direction of the unfinished story.....well, that's an attempt at something cool, if you ask me! I certainly don't feel it's been foisted on me, at least not in the way I'd say adjudication error crashes are foisted me!

There are 3 reasons why I didn't participate:

1: I already knew that murder-hobos would kill Salome, because I've played this game long enough to know how people operate within it. This player-base is nothing if not predictable.

2: I honestly don't care about the entire Salome storyline because it just amounts to a series of Galnet articles about Imp stuff that never intersects with anything I find interesting. Eventually it'll be in a book I'll probably buy but never find the time to read.

3: I'm far too busy trying to hold my home system together after the devs butchered the BGS mechanics and then wandered off to other things without fixing it.
