Sapkowski is suing CDProjekt Red over The Witcher rights

Lol, whatever you say man. Here, how do you like this half-ethiopian girl?
Or this African American character?
Here, an African American professor:
Enjoy these true Egyptians!

And all of this is just fine, but the notion that a white character may have been considered a black role in a film adaption at some point in the past without it even happening; now that is outrageous!

It may be pertinent to point out that Anthony Hopkins is Welsh...a bit far removed geographically from the role he took on :)

If I understood correctly, CDPR offered him a choice beween getting a percentage of the game's profits or a fixed sum. He chose the fixed sum. Not CDPR's fault he now, in hindsight, changed his mind.

If that is true he may not have a leg to stand on (so to speak).

If a character is ethiopian then she should be ethiopian.

I wouldn't defend any of the above. An the media took take pleasure in complaining about some of them.

I'm all for characters being cast as closely as possible to how they were represented in the original media but I also understand why Netflix is loath to do this because of a backlash from media if they did a tv series contain nothing but white cast, like GoT have from some quarters.

So no white person can be consider an ethiopian, even if they are born in that country?

Not if they had a book written about them where it is absolutely clear they are not white. But sure, I'll play your game: are you sure Ciri isn't actually a black girl, using secret and untold magic to look like a white girl? :p

Lets be serious. In the western world white people are the dominant culture, and dominant cultures tend to be not-so-nice to minorities throughout human history all overt he planet. The film industry is a clear example of that, and as with any such example it needs to be fixed. That means that you cant use obviously white people for obviously non-white roles (and particularly in historical settings). To prevent the "yeah sure, we'll do that. But unfortunately every single role just happens to be specifically for white people now, sorry." escape it unfortunately becomes understandable to get all petty and set a quotum. Which hurts my head as a creative person, but it is what happens when so many people in an industry knowingly misbehave for well over a century.

It's not outrageous, it's just weird and unnecessary.

Imagine a movie or series about Shaka Zulu, in which Shaka Zulu was played by a white actor. Or another movie in which Denzel Washington played the role of Julius Caesar. Or a new Blade movie, starring Jet Li as Blade. Or a 2 meter tall norwegian guy playing the role of Bilbo Baggins. Or Jason Stathan playing the role of Luke Cage, or Michael Jordan. It's equally ridiculous.

Sounds a bit like Sean Connery’s career. In a thick Scot accent “in thish film I’m a Russian, but in Highlander I wash Spanish acting opposite a French man playing a Scot”.

Ahhh happier times, before people got all bent out of shape by fictional characters.

The thing is that we've had literally hundreds of movies like that, and not many people gave much of a crap. But people do care about someone considering making a fictional character black. Personally I just find it funny either way. But if people really want Ciri to be white, I am cool with that as long as Jesus becomes the short Arab he is supposed to be. Lets trade fictional characters. :p

May I add, that he uses every ocassion to badmouth the game and gamers (his famous quote saying "I don't know many people who have played it, my friends are rather intelligent") and a lot of other poo thrown the game's way. (compare: https://www.pcgamesn.com/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt/the-witcher-games-andrzej-sapkowski-profits ).

TL; DR: he flat out refused a % cut offer back then, and after years of badmouthing wants a ride on the gravy train. Hypocrite.

He messed up and is seeing the amount of missing profit from that, and instead of swallowing his pride, he lashes out, because it really is the only way he has a chance of getting more money.

It is not admirable and it is hypocritical but it is a very human reaction.

Danzeil Washington was a great Don Pedro, Prince of Aragon in 1993's Much Ado About Nothing, so I would imagine he would also give a great performance as Julius Caesar, especially given he has already played Marcus Brutus.

I mean Shakespeare seems to be re-imaged so often and no one blinks an eye; I have seen productions of MacBeth with the thematic design
Tradition Medieval Scotland
The Modern Corporate World
Shogunate Japan
Maori Tribes of New Zealand
What ever costumes we had poor student productions

Yeah, was going to mention that but decided not to, because it's horribly off topic. I don't think it's strange that native production companies employ only natives to make productions for native audiences. After all, I doubt the HK film industry or Bollywood hires a lot of white actors for parts of adaptations of western works. I'm not sure why Hollywood has to work differently. Now if there are capable actors in the field that are good for that role and happen to fit the part's ethnicity then sure, they should be given due consideration. It's also weird that there's a push for an actor of a specific race or culture to play the part of a specific race or culture. They're actors, their entire profession is about pretending to be something they're not. If they fit the physical description of the role, does it really matter if the actor is one culture/race or another?
