Say My Name!

I like how I'm DeLacy Whiskey India Lima to starports but the robot sounding ones at engineer bases call me Faulcon DeLacy Whiskey India Lima Heavy. Presumably because robots are never bored or in a rush.

I don't know, Bravo Alpha Charlie just sounds so.. generic. Then again, that's my name, so I gotta live with it.
Just wanted to say that that's one of the many things I loved about 2.1; stations actually communicating with you over the radio. Yeah you heard it right, I still love that update. Feel free to call me the local village idiot now :D

If I should delete my save, for what reason ever. My next cmdr starts with w4p.... And every time I visite a station I will call my wife and crank up the volume. :)

Kilo Uniforme Romeo.

Meh, I prefer the one of my plane. Fox Golf Fox Charlie Tango.

Local Village Idiot

Lima Victor India.
or LOC
Lima Oscar Charlie.

November Romeo. I was worried when that feature was added that having a two char CMDR name might break it. Just got back from six months out exploring last week, so heard the new announcements for the first time. Nice touch.

I gotta say, addition of the flight controllers has been my favourite feature so far by a long shot. They add so much immersion to a game I appreciate because it DOESN'T make me feel special, like I'm the hero. It seems somehow more 'realistic' if that's a valid expression for a sci-fi setting.

But the flight controllers add more than just spelling out your initials. With the static of opening up the comms and then when they're closing, it sounds believable.

DeLacy India Lima India. Can't get enough of it.

It's also great when they swear at you. "Please observe ****ing protocols."

Yes, I know that's not what they really say, but it bloody well sounds like it!

Ah yes, I remember the moment a month or so ago that I realized that 'Sierra Hotel Alpha' meant ME. Sure, I'd heard it over and over again for the few weeks I'd been playing, and I realized that they were spelling out 'SHA', but for some reason I always thought it was the station announcing itself. So I pondered why all the stations were (something) SHA. It wasn't until I'd gone through the Sidewinder and Hauler and had headlooked around my new Cobra, spotted the DeLacy plaque, and then shortly after approached a station, and clearly heard 'DeLacy Sierra Hotel Alpha' that it clicked, and the lightbulb went off in my head. They were talking to me. They were SAYING MY NAME.

It completely floored me. In all the decades I've been playing, a game had never called me by name before. I had to share this, so I excitedly tell my husband how amazing it was that the game does that. My husband, who's been playing (and trying to get me to play) this game since beta, who's been hearing the game say HIS name for just as long as flight control's been using it, had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. He had simply never registered it. That was a better 'first discovery' than any planet that now bears my name in-game. :D
