Scanned at Gargantuan

Hi

Took a couple of passengers from Robigo out to Gargantuan - much easier to find with new scanner! - and whilst repairing FSD from over use at Neutron Stars was scanned by a pirate.

One mission cancelled, so threw him overboard, and went back disgruntled and 7M Cr poorer.

First time EVER scanned at a passenger destination.

Is this a new and unwelcome feature, or just one of those things?

Anybody else had this happen?

Thanks!

It's not new...

Happened to me a long time back at Neutron Earth Like... some 12000LY from the bubble iirc... I get there with my tourist and as I drop out of friendship drive I get Scan Detected and a mission failed message within a second. And all before I even see the tourist beacon.

Like every single spot in any mining ring, since the last update now even tourist beacons have NPC pirates as well, for some reason. FD must believe that pirate NPCs everywhere are the best gameplay ever, so they keep adding more to more places.

I was scanned by a trio of pirates at "The Centre" tourist beacon of Sagittarius A.

They demanded my juicy cargo, organic stuff I scraped off from a few molluscs in a Lagrange cloud at 6000 credits per piece - I decided to run FAST, as my explorer outfit was not really designed for a fight :).

Yeah, don't hang around. More annoying was a CMDR scanning me in the station - so I hadn't even taken off with a new pax mission and they aborted on me. Surprised that form of griefing hasn't taken off...

Hm, I occasionally scan a few commanders on my way into a station. I guess I'll be careful to switch target quick if it's likely to be a passenger ship from now on. FD should sort this out, must be an oversight.

It's rubbish! Frontier can stick these pirates where the sun don't shine.

Definitely not new with 3.3, you've been lucky if you've avoided it previously. It's the reason that I tend to use the Orca when I'm running sightseeing missions with passengers who would like to avoid any err... 'Imperial entanglements'.

I was scanned at a destination on a short tourist passenger mission. It was either a mission target for a mission I was holding, or a pirate after the passengers items he wanted - some time ago, so cannot remember the specifics. Since then I have always looked at the ships in the contact tab of the left panel when entering a tourist locations.

Mine was in the bubble, so it has always beeb possible a pirate that has taken a liking to you will follow you in. However I do not think I have ever had this out in the black.

Ever since Tourist Beacons were introduced, there's been a small but nonzero chance of a pirate spawning along with all the tourist liners.

Yep, that happens. Has happened.
A heat sink can work wonders for dealing with these situations.
Here's another trick that works wonders:

If you know you're being pursued by pirate filth, park yourself right at the star in the system and turn 180 degrees from the star and cut your throttle.
Sit there and wait and watch them dive into the star trying to get behind you. Then carry on and enjoy the rich smokey smell of their hopes and dreams.

Besides silent running or a heat sink, another way to stop a scan is to just deploy hardpoints. If near a starport just retract them afterwards..
