Scared of the first wave of newbies on the game

elite is a very different game from most MMO's, enough that, like EVE, it will likely be a little jarring for new players first into it.

this is a formal request to FD to NOT EVER CAVE IN, yes if something proves unavoidable and a terminal game killer thats complained about, change it, but only after its proven to continue for months with no discernable player options to avoid.

because seriously, people WILL whine for nerfs "balances" and outright changes to the game to be in their favor, and they will likely outnumber the players from beta or the vets from previous elites.

just hoping FD stays with THEIR vision of the game, and doesnt cave. I already suffered through whiners killing SWG for me with "enhancements", WoW continues down the road of catering to the lowest common denominator, and EVE recently announced their major design decisions will be coming from a 30 minute test of players who never touched EVE and basing it on what they THINK they game should be like (WASD controls are now in EVE because dumbdumbs kept tryign to move with them)

i just dont want Elite to be another game that tries to cater to everyone but itself and dies

/endrant im tired, allergy medication, gonna go sleep, will come back and proofread when i can actually see the sentences

The mechanics of Elite are absolutely sound. The gripes I see generally revolve around people wanting to be Buck Rogers without putting any practice in.

I don't think Elite has to worry about that. This is how the Elite games has always played I don't see it will ever "dumb down".

This isn't Eve: Dangerous, nor is it World of Spaceships, lets hope it stays that way....

I am going to be one of the new players when this goes live, so far all i have managed to do is die a lot in the combat demo, but I dont want it changed, I want a massive learning curve , I want it to be hard, and I want us all to learn from it - I see this game the same way I saw Elite on the BBC all them years ago, it took me a very long time to be able to land every time without fail - I praticed , I praticed and I praticed some more, in the end I could do it, in the end after many house I made it to "Elite" and I could fly and play the game to a lot higher standard. - I cant wait to launch from a station and make my own way, learning as I go (failing and dieing a lot) until I get to a point that I know what im doing and can hold my own :)

We can only hope. I' m just in short before the Gamma launch but what I see so far and read on the forums I wouldnt hold my breath on FD not bending over to the "Make it easier" brigade that is already crying for a game pause option.

They need to make it harder and the AI needs some work, but yeah I can't see FD dumbing it down for the plebs as they said they are making the game they want to play themselves

the forum will be crowded again with players who cant land their ships.
but we should either help of ignore those.
just watch out their dangerous.

Its not only the pause game, there are other threads that I have seen as "I dont like the balance, fix it"

I will be a newbie old timer as I played the previous 3 but its been a while and this game from the looks of it pays proper homage but is also new and refreshed. One aspect about the game mechanics that does seem to be ignored or overlooked is that sandbox is affected by the people playing in it. No-one can truly understand how this will affect the various things you can do until there are enough players in game playing. This may even take some time to settle down and find its balance, until then I am planning on enjoying the ride

FD for sure will ignore almost every post. This is not how people influence a game/company. Neither how companies change their products anyway.

People vote/approve/disapprove with their money.
If they loose customers they will implement things they might not want in the game for example.

Probably also the reason why EVE might implement "WASD" movement.

Yes, please. Stubbornly defy all that has come before and be a square peg in a round hole. Don't conform to the masses - God knows, they aren't the ones who've made gaming what it is - it's always stubborn, self-righteous developers who would rather cater to a niche, select crowd of self-entitled gamers who think their opinion on ED is the only one that matters.

In fact, you should ONLY give the Kickstarter guys, particularly the ones who played the original Elite, what they want. Don't bother adding in any modern features - you know, because you don't have any reason to compete with modern games.

Stick to what worked 30 years ago, and be sure not to "ruin" a game by adding any *optional* features that 1980's die-hards don't even have to use if they don't want. I mean, nothing in gaming has really improved in 30 years, has it, now?

In fact, while you're at it, just be sure to keep us as separate and unsocial as possible.

I mean, there's no reason that the social aspects (you know, the ones that are in 90% of the most successful games in the world?) should be there. Because you won't need any more funding to keep your servers live or keep catering to the old schoolers. I'm sure all the funds they donated on Kickstarter are plenty to keep adding all those promised features THEY want.

Only their dollars count, so don't worry about all those people who won't buy your game because it has only the bare features to be called "multiplayer". Once the game is reviewed, they won't buy it anyway.

+1 There is still hope for this forums after all...
