Scared of the first wave of newbies on the game

Just my humble opinion;

I believe one important difference of ED with other "MMO" specially EVE is that there is no subscription. So there is no real reason for FD to over-please whiny costumers to everything they say. Yeah you bought their game, but its not the only game they make money of, and we are not paying monthly to play it either.

CCP has that disadvantage, they either cave in or subs go up in smoke. Frontier in the other hand, IMO doesn't.

safe flight

It means that they'll eventually have to do everything they can to appeal to new people, including dumbing down the game.

Seeing that there is an offline mode that players can switch to at anytime, I doubt there will be a need for any nerfs.. It's absolutely that players that play offline with little risk and can then transfer all their wealth and ships to the online world when ever they choose. And why any players would want this I have no idea...

I'm assuming this is supposed to be sarcasm, since there is no offline mode.

If you aren't happy with the way the game is put together, do like I did when I was younger. Get a cardboard box, cut out holes for windows and pretend it's a spaceship. I could make it do whatever I wanted. No one ever needed to nerf my box. Except for rain kinda nerfed it I guess........

You're right. Only kickstarter backers who played the original Elite should be allowed to express their opinions. Everyone else can go suck and egg /sarcasm

He might have meant solo instead of offline. I have heard arguments on both sides but it is rather strange that someone can gain stuff in solo with no risk of PvP and then click over to open mode to use that "stuff" against others in PvP if they desire.

I'm all for the option of open/solo to suit peoples desires. But why are they intertwined?

Toxic phobia, 2nd class playerbase?

What's with this toxic phobia towards new people? It's the kind of elitist attitude which makes the game unapproachable by new people, with a community which can't take off it's Nostalgia goggles and shuns noobs as 2nd class peasants. Everyone is allowed to post their level headed opinions of Elite Dangerous, everyone is allowed to send feedback on the topic of balance and game play. Perhaps you shouldn't partake in online discussion of balance if you can't cope with debunking false accusations of something being OP or UP. The gap between backer and pre-orderer already exists with the lack of a pre-launch wipe, don't widen it with hostility towards new blood. I'm looking forward to playing on the 16th before forming my own opinions, and I fully intend to participate in providing feedback, and partaking in discussion on these forums.

If someone posts something which is false, debunk it with a level-headed attitude and evidence. Provide a good example of the veterans here in the ED community. So far from what I've seen in this thread it's not exactly a positive impression to leave.

The hostility is because many developers ditch the old players in an effort to bring in new players. Saw this happen with Arma 3 and many other games. New players often come in expecting the game to change towards a direction they like and the older players get upset because they've enjoyed how the game was before the new players started demanding change.

The gripes I see generally revolve around people wanting to be Buck Rogers without putting any practice in.

Unfortunately the Latest ED launch trailer panders directly to players with that mentality who may well have a legitimate gripe when they find it isn't all about combat around the spaceport and get rather upset that if they shoot the spaceport will get annoyed.

As someone who plays Arma 3 regularly, could you elaborate? Could you also give any more examples of new people ruining games? "Many other games" doesn't really register to me as something which supports you.

I'll welcome some new players to be honest, i'm in the Alliance area of the galaxy and i haven't seen a single human player in the past 4 hours of play.

I bought the mercenary edition last week, and have been watching streamers on twitch, read practically everything I could get my grubby little hands on regarding the game, and have played the combat tutorials to death (still cant beat Incursion yet).

I never played the original Elite or its successors, but I have played quite a few MMOs, including EVE for about 6 years. The thing that drew me to this game is it is unlike anything I have ever seen before in a game. Personally the game looks to me to be about 90% complete. but I'm not posting this to review the game..

If course there will be the inevitable players who will say the game is too difficult because they cant pull off the sweet flight assist off backflip that was shown in the launch trailer, and the first npc ship they came across after being interdicted utterly creams them into oblivion. I'm probably gonna scrape one or two sidewinders up pretty bad when trying to land, and wreck a few making other dumb moves.

If someone doesn't read anything or watch anyone play the game, or do any of the tutorials before logging in, there is going to be a bit of difficulty I'm sure. A lot of the new players coming in though on the 16th are ones who have been watching the streams, playing the tutorials and itching to get thrown into this wonderful galaxy.

Point is don't think all the noobs are going to be n00bs. I can't wait to login, and I can't wait to see how this game is going to evolve. I hope it stays unique and doesn't get dumbed down.

Only the future will tell.
