scars

Its such a common portrait in game: a vertical scar that runs thru one of the eyes. What is it about flying a spaceship in this galaxy that targets the pilot's eye in such a way?

"I use to be a pilot, until I took a canopy to the face."

Except, a broken canopy would not shatter inwards, it would shatter outwards due to decompression.

"It's not the canopy you have to worry about, it's your head slamming into the console in front of you during an explosive decompression. And if you have one of the RemLock's that were subject to a safety recall, you might find that impact can crack or even shatter your visor. And while those also blow outward due to decompression, it's the bits of glass from the side that often fly up across your face."

It's my opinion that some shallow people just think such disfigurement looks 'cool'. I have overheard customers at those plastic surgery shops being given 'the soft sell'. It seems the very fact that any such 'injury' is very well known not only to be unnecessary (scar tissue being so easily amenable to nanite repair at the cellular level) but actually 'in your face' fake is a selling point, the real flaunt value being the name of the surgery where you got it, the length and coloration of the cut, and of course... the price. LOL

Bar fights. The NPCs already have space legs and go carousing station side when we're not looking :)

I place my bet on a cheap cybernetics surgery with an unlicensed doc from some backwater.
Luckily the surgery was successful, but not the scar coverage.

Actually it's not the canopy you have to worry about, but your cockpit cat which, on the way out, decided your nose and eyes are purrfect to dig its claws into.

I call it the “noob scar”.

There’s an overhead machete locker on the left hand side of the door on a Sidewinder.
Falcon Delacey were going to do a recall because of the faulty latch, but they came to an agreement with the Sirius Bionic Eye Corp and it’s been a lucrative arrangement ever since.

I guess plastic surgery in the future just hasn't advanced far enough to be able to restore scar tissue... [noob]

I put that scar in a combination with one of those bionic eyes, as a sort of a unlicensed-hackjob-in-a-slum-alleyway-operation by a shady guy who told me that he was a qualified eye surgeon. Then I thought 'I'm too old for this' and spent the next 4-5 hours in HoloMe, sculpting a fairly accurate likeness of myself.
