DOCTOR WHO SPOILERS ON THE LATEST EPISODE FOLLOW.

Hmm. After Neil Gaiman's first foray into Doctor Who, I had high hopes for this episode. It didn't quite live up to them. After the new series neatly restored cybermen to the emotionless calculating aspect they originally presented in the 60's, he's single-handedly reduced them back to what they became in the late 70's to early 80's - Bogeyman-like monsters with the capacity to get infuriated by being thwarted.

All this stuff about the relationship between the emperor, Porridge and the mad-hatter fellow was left largely unexplored, as was how an unbelievably large cyber-conversion facility came to be hidden under a planet without ever being noticed, with the question that if they had the capacity to construct it, why on earth did they need to wait for a cyber-controller to continue rebuilding their forces?

Also all the gimicky ways that the cybermen kept outsmarting those soldiers were really unnecessary, IMHO.

Really hoping that this final episode of the series next week pays out for 3 years' buildup with The Silence.

Where as I agree with your points, and I totally agree with Cybermen being over personified.. I felt this weeks episode was on track and far more enjoyable than any thus far this series... it had my son quaking.. he hates cybermen..

but the nambi pambi stories continue.. and WHAT a potential... Gaimen writing, with I call him Herrick and Willow... that Warrick can act too.. found him to be very natural..

Im sooo dissapointed with this series thus far.... Really, the companion is flat compared to Amy and Rory.. I hope this is just a mild blip on the history of Dr Who and they will drag it back to where it had been..

I find Matt Smith utterly incapable in this season... acting has been POOR..

my 2 cents... but I liked this episode more than any this season.

I think the problem has been that they've had to bring in a new companion mid season and the stories were just not in place to deal with her. The first half of the season dealing with Rory and Amy was pretty good and ended very well.

So far with this half of the season they have had reasonably light and fluffy episodes to get folks acquainted with Clara. They would have been better off with the Doctor doing a lot of solo stories and occasionally taking Clara with him so that we can get used to her. Looking at the stories so far the emphasis has been on the companion this season and not really on the Doctor.

There have been some good episodes and it seems that the kids are loving it, but I do agree that for us adults this half of the season has been a little bland.

Well I have to admit I was fairly impressed with Dr Who last night. Just the right level of malevolence to make it feel like a classic Who, and the setup at the end was great. Roll on November!

I thought the begining was SOOO CROWBARRED IN...

It was MUCH better... the best thus far and i look forward to the next season in hope.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with this development in the Doctor Who special... for want of a better description, the
Zeroth Doctor.

I remember reading that there were plans set in motion way back in Remembrance of the Daleks, where The Doctor was supposed to say to Davros that he was much more than simply a Time Lord. The plan was to reveal in the upcoming (and never actually made) next series that
before he was "The Doctor", he was The Other - a forgotten figure in Gallifreyan history who along with Rassilon and Omega created the Eye of Harmony that enabled time travel, and started the Time Lord tradition.

This would explain why the first thing that The Doctor did when leaving Gallifrey (according to Remembrance of the Daleks) was
to steal the Hand of Omega (the device that created the Eye) and hide it on Earth, keeping it out of the reach of the Time Lords that he had come to distrust.

I did like the ending the Dr Who and was plesently surprised seeing
John Hurt as the Doctor.
on seeing him as the Doctor it made me feel how much i miss seeing a more mature person playing the Role.
If they actually made
John Hurt
as the Doctor in a Big Screen adaptation it would make me a kiddy school kid again. Time to bring back the old boys.

HE is Vocal ****... makes my ears moist... HE could read the phone book... and I'd have aural orgasms..
Is that too much?

Dr Who Matt Smith goes at the end of the year

Matt Smith has officially announced that he's bowing out of Doctor Who at the end of the year.

here are a few people I think that I could be happy with taking his place.

im up for a more mature actor, someone in or near their 40s
