Science Updates?

Not sure how often the Elite galaxy simulation is updated, but I often come across fun science articles like this:

Mysterious Population of Free Floating Planets Discovered

and I’m curious what new scientific discoveries have been and should be implemented into the Elite galaxy? Would be neat to visit one of the officially confirmed exoplanets discovered!

Very rarely and only in specific instances where it doesn't disturb the rest of the galaxy simulation. This for instance would be difficult of impossible do due to the mass requirements, the galaxy simulation is a fixed mass, and moving mass around in any major way could potentially reset the entire galaxy.

I do not think BGS is that complex to include gravity interactions between stars. I think this is only done for star systems (which are single instance). Stars near Sag A should have movement close to 10% of speed of light and as such stars near it should have moved in the time ED is playable if BGS includes gravity interactions between stars. For me it is sufficient to have static milky way map and in this case adding lone planet not as a star system but rather exploration curiosity (instanced like a star system) should not be a problem. Problem is ED has no mechanics that allow star discovery so it would have to be added and somehow visible on the galaxy map- do not forget game doesn't allow jumping into the void between stars now.

Yeah it’d be nuts if you could manually travel between stars sublight. Even if it swapped instances at the halfway mark or something.

How far out do the instances actually go? Has it been said or tested? I know it’ll say like “100 days” travel times on occasion but what happens if you actually fly for 100 days? 😂

Because I imagine they could possibly drop a lone planet into a system but so far out it’s essentially independent? Maybe not scientifically speaking, but for all intents and purposes.

Kinda similar to Hutton Orbital?

You could do that, but it would still appear on the system map as part of that system.

What they could do is make it a randomly generated instance during a mis-jump, so you would drop out of hyperspace unexpectedly and appear in deep space next to a completely black planet, like a USS in deep space, sort of like how Thargoid encounters work. It could be randomly generated say 1 out of every 100 or 1,000 jumps would drop you into a separate instance, to get out you would just use the galmap like normal and follow your plotter route. Or they could make it an effect of certain actions, like jumping through a jet cone would drop you out between stars so you could create your own mis-jumps.

But adding them as part of the actual galaxy model wouldn't work, anything you encounter in a private instance isn't part of the stellar forge generated galaxy so it would work fine. And they could put interesting stuff there to find, since it's a private instance the skies the limit, it will affect no-one else but the player/s involved.

This is where Astrometrics Module (Long Range Sensors etc) would be nice addition to explorer toolset. Just imagine going far away from star, turning on said module to see if there are any points of interests outside of solar system - those would be private/squadron type instances available for exploration (or other activities like salvaging, mining, combat).

So really pointless since you couldn't share it, nobody else could travel to it, it would exist outside the frame of reference of the game's galaxy. I'd rather they devoted some development time to something useful - like a "Save As" button in the options / controls page(s).

But your FSS performs all those functions - there is nothing in a system that cannot be detected and pinpointed by you FSS, no matter how far away it is. As I mentioned above, any "private" instance like that mentioned by @varonica would exist outside the game's galaxy so you couldn't have navigational directions to it. You are really talking about a mini-bubble-universe separate from the one the game is in, sort of a parasite. ;)

Exactly. All object and signals IN system, not outside of it. This module sole purpose would be discovery of points of interest outside of current system. As for private instances I would add option to share it with squad members and ability to save some of them (up to predefined limit). Additionally if private instance had something really rare and interesting it would be possible to report it and made available to all players - things like wormholes, stargate, artifacts, etc.

So basically you are just looking to import exotic / novel phenomena into the game by an underhand means.

Personally, I think you would be better served by using a hot-key to switch to NMS or Everspace2. - I don't like the idea of suggesting the developers look for something new to add before they actually fix all the issues the game has at the moment.

What underhanded means? Extortion, theft, black ops, threatening, hostile take over? All is in plain text here:)
I do have lots of ideas which would make ED more fun for me ... and the main issue I have with ED atm is combat everywhere enforced on everyone. Load 1t of cargo and see what happens (mine it in hotspot) - You will get chased all over it until You either drop it or "die" or kill the attacker. Not to mention that foul (venom like) language used by pirates vs You. In short combat is being forced on non-combat focused players but I can live with that and if I'm tired of it I'm simply not playing game (like now) until I feel I can get back and enjoy it again. New things like gates (stargate) -or if You do not like lets make it square gate, triangular gate, black hole gate, doesn't matter as long as it does it's function- would enhance gameplay for me and maybe for other non-combat oriented players.

P.S. Ty for suggesting other tiles to play. I will note them down and maybe someday try out when I have time.

I have to agree with the sentiment about prevalence of combat. I didn't buy a space-shooter and I for sure was not looking for a first-person-shooter.

Over six years of regular play on multiple accounts and I have never got near Elite in combat - nor any "rank" in the CQC arcade game.
