Scorpion is a joke.

Ref my post here the Scorpion gun system as it is per now presents a woefully inadequate level of accuracy both on the first shot and after, what I personally believe is an unacceptable amount of raw firetime. What I mean by that is that even if you are able to keep the trigger pressed for as long as you like, the weapon will -never- achieve the absolute level of accuracy that you would expect.

It fires fast and hits hard, but I'd happily trade an amount of both for improved first-shot accuracy, absolutely.
Good news: you can pick the Scarab if you want that. :)

I really dislike the increase in precision (spread) over time, its a stupid trope in games. Precision should be high in the first shots and should maybe go down a bit with sustained fire. Accuracy (the ability to point the rifle where you want the shot to land, (keeping your mouse pointer crosshairs on target)) should actually increase over time by being able to hone in on your target (tracers) and offset by the recoil of the gun, but these should be fully controllable by the player using the mouse or controller.

This actually goes for all ground weapons in Elite and makes them all feel like cheap toys, while actually would expect the distant future to have pretty precise guns (but maybe higher inaccuracy due to the heavier guns/bullets to account for increases in armor effectiveness).

Currently the whole balancing of gunplay translates to imprecise guns and high time to kill because of the closer distances to reliably hit each other.

I cant imagine what think people who add such spread to the gun on "combat" SRV.
Yeah - single shot is powerful. But who cares if you cant even hit anything smaller than T9 from 5 meters?
And rocket load too low to score it.

Scarab outperform it with everything.
I have no a single idea why i should use Scorp now. Even in combat areas.
Until u guys give Scorp gun same spread as Scarab - it's worthless

I had to say it, but I don't get why this new Scarab is too much hyped. It is kinda small, I thought its design could be more tanky. The performance is, well, meh...
And need a lot of improvements, imho.

BUT, remembering Frontier mantra: "Please remember that what we show will very much be work in progress and not final."

Everything become clear.

The gun DOES get more accurate. Pull and hold down the trigger until the target falls. Do not shoot if he is going to cover.

But it's not enough and arguably its stupid to have the gun become more precise over time.

FWIW: If you read the comments, the people upvoting were doing so before they had tried it themselves. The latest thread about it a day later is questioning why the Scorpion exists.

Why?
It's mainly a multiplayer tool.
It's not a Scarab replacement

And multiplayer alone offers a lot of advantages over someone that is alone.
Making the Sorps's blaster like a sniper rifle would have been really bad.

It really has no niche at all as designed. Two Scarabs are better than a multicrew Scorpion, the Scarab out-damages the Scorpion due to dispersion, the Scarab is better at, well, everything. At best it's training wheels for people who have trouble driving on low-G planets or maybe for people who couldn't figure out how to move pips to shields in the Scarab. It looks like it was supposed to be the combat SRV to accompany the exploration SRV but that's not what was delivered. If the release order was reversed people would be complaining the Scarab powercreeps the Scorpion and leaves it with no purpose.

Yeah, that repeater sucks, looks like it is throwing rocks...

That missile launcher will beg to differ.
Have you tried it? I took it to a CZ and struggled to get it to even hit commandos let alone kill them. It's way faster to get out and shoot them and that ammo is free, and also way faster to shoot them with a Scarab. Again, it looks like it's supposed to be a combat SRV, it just isn't, and will either get massively buffed once the hype wears off and others realize this or it will be forgotten. It currently has no reason to exist.

I tried it last night and it worked perfectly fine. Killing enemy troops left and right. It's especially useful when you track down the dropship and nuke the helluva a group of commanods right after they drop.

Scarab can't do it this fast.

The description in the patch notes for Odyssey is:

Introducing…The Scorpion.
The Scorpion, a new SRV designed specifically for supporting infantry on ground-based combat has rolled into action.

So... designed to support the ground troops.

Anyway, I guess it's only a matter of time for people to master it's abilities and start to praise it
