Screen Shake since 2.2

Hi,

Wondering if anyone else has this issue, since 2.2 landed I've noticed an annoying screen shake effect in VR, it's not constant it's an intermittent thing but when it comes it's horrible in VR as you can imagine like someone is shaking your head.

At first I thought it was vibration inside my house shaking the tracking cam which I have in a tripod (I play from the Sofa on a DK2)

But I'm sure I noticed the screen shaking when I played later in the evening on my other PC which is setup with triples, the menu when I was docked was definitely shaking and this was a different PC so I'm wondering if a screen shaking effect has been added?

VR users should definitely notice this is it's quite uncomfortable! I don't normally have any issue with ED in VR, my VR/Space legs are pretty good, I can buzz round, loop the loop, dock backwards, negative dive flip off an NPC, you name it, no issues!

Try toggling the different shake reduction options in the graphics settings; during beta, those settings sometimes got out of sync with the menu. Just toggle them and apply the change twice to make sure they are in sync with what the menu is showing.

Hi! I didn't know about these settings, thanks I will check what I have set :)

ASW hasn't been switched on yet, so unless you have used the dev tool to turn it on then the answer is no.

ASW stands for asynchronous timewarp. It basically generates frames when the game can't keep up, to try and lessen any judder etc.

I am getting a little bit of judder myself now since 2.2, only really when looking down at the cockpit controls on the seat. I just dropped the shadows down a notch from Ultra to High. With 2.2 FD have made some improvements to the graphics options and effects available in the game when using VR. So if you were running ultra before you might find that the new increased settings have become a little bit much for your system.

Hi thanks for explaining that. It's not an issue with frame rate, there is actually a screen shake/vibration effect like someone is shaking the tracking camera so it's not a performance issue. I still need to log on and have a look for these 'shake' settings that were mentioned above.

Is it just in ED, or other programs?

Hey , just wanted to update this, sadly didn't get any time to play over the weekend however I did splash out on a new game for VR, The Climb. And I noticed the shake when I was playing so it's not isolated to ED, either something in the Oculus drivers or physical vibration of the tracker, or hardware issue in the DK2/Tracker, I mean it's getting on a bit now.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try dropping the settings a little on ED to see if that helps or just switch to my other PC which is more powerful, I just like playing from the Sofa lol.

The PC I currently play in VR has an i7 3770 @3.9/4.2ghz, 8gb Ram 1600mhz (was 16 but one of the 4gb sticks developed a fault, soon to be replaced with new set of 16gb 1833mhz) and GTX970 SC / Win10, It's actually my Media PC so maybe a little under powered for modern VR. It has the latest build of Win10 and latest NVidia drivers of course.

My Main gaming Rig has a AMD8350 @4ghz/16gb AMD Gaming Ram (2400mhz) and GTX980ti. I'll hook the Rift up to this PC and update the drivers (It's running Win7 and the old Oculus Runtime 6 lol as I still used some of the old beta software.) I'll see if the Shake is present on that setup and report back.

Didn't notice you were on a DK2 - yes your tracker is broken I'm afraid, I had the very same problem and Oculus sent me a new DK2 as they could not send the tracker camera alone. The only thing that would temporarily resolve the issue was covering and then uncovering the tracking LEDs on the DK2 for a moment with my hands to break the tracking, this would resolve the issue for 10 mins or sometimes an hour or so before it started again. I to noticed the problem in Elite first but after a few months started to see it in other apps as well.

Thanks for the info, it's been dropped a few times so that's probably why. I'm asking the missus for a CV1 for Christmas so hopefully it survives until then, at the moment it's intermittent and only lasts a few minutes at a time. I play for maybe 1 hour before noticing it I guess.

Yup, sounds very similar to the experience I had - cover the sensor when it starts (or block the LEDs from being seen) will fix it for a short while.

I've just noticed the shake too on my CV1. It happens intermittently and is most noticeable when I look down at my "hands" in ED.

Where are the "shake" settings in the config menu (as mentioned above)?

I have enabled ASW and the shakes seem worse when ASW is engaged (45fps)
