Newcomer / Intro Screenshots?

Ok... I've taken screenshots in the past... but now, I can't seem to take them... or perhaps I can't find them... I'm not sure which.

I press F10 in the game to take the screenshot (I've also tried Print Screen, F11, and even F12, which turns on external camera). This is SUPPOSED to take a screenshot.

It's supposed to be saved to a folder in C: Users.... Frontier/Elite Dangerous/Screenshots. However, when I browse to the User/Appdata folder, it lists TWO Frontier folders. One is named Frontier Developments. The other is named Frontier_Developments. There's no screenshot folder in either of them. It doesn't save screenshots to My Documents OR My Pictures... so I'm at a loss where else to look... or if it's even TAKING the shots.

Very puzzled. Any thoughts?

Is there a way to bind the screenshot key somewhere other than F10?
I can't see one. I had a look in the BINDS file too but I couldn't see one there either. Someone else with more knowledge may know of some way. I did read somewhere that Steam does things a little differently - perhaps F12?

I just took a screenshot using the "print screen" key so that does work unless you've bound that to something already.

The only thing that might have changed it from F10 (which I understand it's SUPPOSED to be) is that I did bind that to a camera angle. That might have removed the screenshot function from that key. That's why I wondered if there was a way to bind it elsewhere, but I didn't see it in the options.

If you use EDDiscovery (and have it running) - it can save your screenies elsewhere, change format and give sensible names - all automatically.

Holy cow, really? Because the only reason why I am not flooding this forum with screenies is, that I do not want to go through the hassle of changing the picture format and size... Thanks, I will investigate this feature... ;)

Edmc has a similar if not superior option.

Normally I let the eddiscovery fans have their say, but recently discovered that it's been blacklisted from some of the other 3rd party apps for being lazy with what data it sends. Now I have a reason to recommend you don't use it.

I will have to look into resurrecting EDMC, when I stopped using it it was much more a one trick pony.

It does? I'm not aware of it. Where is it? I don't see anything in Settings.
It is one of the many plugins that can be added, which I found a couple of hours ago.
I will be studying them and adding any others I like the look of tomorrow or the 19th.

I have always liked the functionality of EDDiscovery (that I had found) over that of EDMC but it could be annoying slow to load or shutdown and update at times but if I can get what I want using EDMC I will probably go back to it.

Nope, can't take a screenshot at all.
Tried F10 and Alt+F10. Nothing.
Tried Print Screen, nothing.
Tried Alt+Print Screen, and it saved a picture to my clipboard of the screen that might have been displayed... perhaps half an hour before.

Very strange, I know I've taken screenshots before, I've no idea why I can't anymore.

Print screen will copy to the clipboard too. I then pasted into a paint program (paint.net) and saved it.
I tried that. I had my ship parked in the station, and moved the camera outside for a lovely external shot. Pressed Alt+Print Screen to save to clipboard, and opened Photoshop to save it. The picture on the clipboard was the cockpit view from when I was out mining about half an hour before. Can't fathom why that would be, but that's how it goes.

Bizarre!

Have you had a look at your binds to see if anything is mapped to F10? (Having issues reading previous posts from my phone).

If so, try un-mapping it to a null value and try again. Other than that, I'm afraid I'm stumped and would use the EDDiscovery option.

I too am having this problem since I updated to Odyssey. No idea why. I've taken lots of shots under prior versions. Was not in Alpha, so I don't have any experience from that. (Did not bind anything else to F10 though, as far as I know. Will take a look through the options files.)
