Sea Of Thieves

I doubt anyone will ever really care about combat logging in this game (unless it changes fundamentally). There's no persistence, so you lose everything at the end of each session anyway, and little real benefit for winning combat.

I think it's niche will become a sort of casual "party game".

My point is, since there is no persistence for your ship supplies or cargo upon logout, it prevents people from realizing any kid of benefit to logging every time someone opens fire on them.

Well so far Its been a blast having fun in a Xbox party, sailing around in fully crewed Galleon with some good chums, the content is what you make.
I must say, I totally agree with Vinde', sailing a sloop is a whole different kettle o' fish and also very enjoyable in its own way. Just remember anyone who is thinking of buying this game , Everyone you meet is a Pirate ergo might relinquish you of your hard gotten gains, as I don't think there is any 'Parleying ta be 'ad in this 'ere Sea of Thieves me 'artys !'.

You're right of course, but I think the game itself obviates any desire to combat log;

If your ship is blown up you simply respawn at no cost with no loss of "progress", hence there is little desire to log out. Death has no meaning.

Equally killing other players has no benefit; you may get a chest or two which can go towards a cosmetic item, but chances are they'll have nothing.

Thus the drive to bother with pvp is minimal.

What? The entire game is a big, open, PvP sandbox. PvE in the game is only there to enable PvP.

It's literally a game about pirates who will do anything to get over on each other, and if you can be sunk, killed, or stolen from then, trust me, you will be.

As for your point about progress, there are already complaints from some about the lack of save-persistent cargo, because "connection errors", of course. Trust me, if a carebear thinks they can save their cargo by logging out at the first sign of trouble, you bet they'll do it.

How much cargo can they be carrying that they care enough to complain? I have maybe 2 chests Max at any given time!

Anyway, I salute your enjoyment of the pvp!

I'm finding it a bit yawn-inducing. As a solo-slooper I can tackle another sloop, and MAYBE they have something to pinch.

Against a galleon (poorly crewed) I can be a "frustration", but realistically no chance of incapacitating them, let alone pinch their stuff.

Well if they didn't have to worry about losing their cargo, then they could have quite a bit! I'm sure some folks have tried!

I was sunk a few nights back with quite a haul on deck - a couple of maurauder's chests, two or three seafarers, some skulls and a box of tea. I'm sure whoever sunk me enjoyed their plunder.

As for me, last night I sunk a sloop. Looted his two seafarer's chests and turned them in with a smile on my face.

Lol? How about no? The gall!

If you gave me a *?%&§ box a tea, I'd turn around and sink you another time. And then once again. And then have you walk the plank. And after that I'd think about what I could do to you with the fruit I saw in vids.

That'd be me enjoying your plunder.

But I thought the complaint was that if you sink someone they just come right back.

I really like the look and feel of SoT but just wish there was more to do. This may sound ironic coming from an E: D player (the same argument has been leveled at this game for years, however much I think that is flat out incorrect), but E: D was a far richer experience at release than SoT is at this time . Still, I love the sailing model and wish that E: D multi crew demanded as much cooperation between team mates. There are some big problems that need to be resolved as well; there is a real bias toward small ships which at the moment are able to wrap the larger gallons in knots, and PvP is somewhat gutless at present. Still I like the game and will continue to dip in over the coming month's as the developers try and work out what they actually want to do with the game.

It's a missed opportunity and a damn shame really. The pirate/sea genre deserves better and this gang clearly weren't up to the task.

Hey Cosmo, i see how SoT has been getting thoroughly panned. I'm not sure that SoT is all people made it out to be.

I had a gut feeling when this game was released that it was going to fall below expectations. The immediate thrill has dissipated, the honeymoon is over (so to speak).

Which Studio was it again?
