Previously: Season 1, Season 2, Season 3 and Season 4 (plus How large are squadrons?)
On each graph, points are on the Y-axis, and squadron position on the leaderboard is on the X-axis. Both scales are logarithmic. The grey line is the numbers for the previous season, and all stats are PC only. As in previous seasons, the approximate power-law distribution continues, allowing estimates of total activity to be made without spending too long reading the boards.
Anti Xeno (116 pages)
Winners: Anti-Xeno Initiative (5th time) with ~27% of all points. Vampyr Ponys and Terra-Ex Astro Corp take the other trophies.
AXI continue to hold on to first place, after another close run season, making them now the only squadron to have five consecutive golds in a single category. Total activity is about the same as last season, though spread across a few more squadrons. With the Thargoid invasion temporarily at a lull, maybe this leaderboard will look different next time.
Combat (846 pages)
Winners: Freelancers Alliance with ~2% of all points. EG Pilots and Anti-Xeno Initiative take the other trophies.
The quietest season for combat activity so far in general, but with both Freelancers Alliance and EG Pilots getting their first combat trophies on very high scores - Freelancers score is the all-time second highest. "Distant Worlds 3" take 10th place, refuting the claim that real explorers don't have weapons or do combat activities.
CQC (79 pages)
Winners: The Winged Hussars with ~25% of all points. CQC Discord and Wanderers of Witchspace.
A bit of a change at the top here, as the Winged Hussars go straight to first place for their CQC trophy, and also become the first squadron to score over 4 million CQC points in a single season - they weren't taking any chances! CQCD and Wanderers take the other two trophy spots to have five CQC trophies each.
Exploration (933 pages)
Winners: EDSM with ~2% of all points. Fleetcomm and Sirius Special Forces take the other trophies.
With Distant Worlds mostly over, and most of the data sold, even if people will still be returning from it in 2021, the exploration leaderboard is starting to settle down and look more like the other five (compare with the season 4 line on the graph). EDSM take their first gold, and with the bronze, Sirius Special Forces become the first non-DW2 faction to get an exploration trophy. Unsurprisingly with there no longer being a record-breaking mass expedition on, total exploration activity is down about 30% on the previous season.
Powerplay (50 pages)
Winners: Federal Liberal Command (3rd time) with ~13% of all points. EG Pilots and Federal Republican Command take the other trophies.
Winters main squadron take a third gold to be the only Powerplay squadron to have five trophies from five seasons, with EGP and FRC both picking up their second trophy. Total activity is about the same as the previous season.
Trade (863 pages)
Winners: Freelancers Alliance with ~2% of all points. Dark Enterprise and 1st Imperial Fleet take the other trophies.
Total points are up on season 4, though not quite as high as the "must get all the void opals" rush of season 1. Looking at the shape of the graph, some of this was driven by a tough contest for those top two places - but trade points are up across the board.
I don't normally talk about the Political leaderboard, because it's not at all clear to me what the points in it are actually for, but congratulations are in order to both The Forgotten and Civitas Dei who have each picked up their fourth Political trophies.
Their CQC win makes the Winged Hussars the second squadron to get trophies in four categories - and the first to get four golds in four different categories. Meanwhile, AXI are now the only squadron to have an unbroken run of golds - and with combat trophies in four of the five seasons, their total of 9 trophies is almost double their nearest rival. Maybe in some future season the two will go head-to-head!
EG Pilots' Combat Silver makes them the first squadron to have a trophy in both Powerplay and another category - the only category where all trophy winners have only ever won in that category is now Exploration, and that may change soon as well.
The number of active squadrons continues to increase, with all three generalist boards gaining an extra 100 or so pages (1000 squadrons) since last time - pretty good for a season entirely taking place in the lull between releases!
