Seat back height in VR

I would love if there was some way to either adjust or have changed in the game the height of the seat. This is only really a problem in vr, but when you center your hmd your head is right in front of the seat back. When a person looks straight up their head tends to roll back from their center mass and in vr this means that my view goes inside of the chair back. I have to artificially canter myself forward to avoid this everytime I look up. If the seat wasn't there so high to clip with this wouldn't be an issue at all. Can we please do something about this clipping with this very normal action in vr?

Sounds like a tracking issue as I don’t get this.

It's not a tracking issue. It's a 6dof issue. When I look up, my head goes back, and this moves my headset backwards into the virtual chair. See my image below for reference. Red is my hmd and blue is the virtual seat. Id say its even exacerbated more than real life because my irl chair leans back, so im leaning back at a greater angle, but the virtual one is nearly straight vertical.

Must say I don't get that problem either. Why don't you just move your head back a little bit, then center the view, then move it back to the original position?

I have not had this problem in nearly 2000+ hours of elite in VR.

Binding hmd reset to your controls or voice attack is key.
You must be in your main resting position when you click the button, any deviation can get odd.

Using the default f12 key, that I have to lean forwards for it would simply set the zero position nearly two feet ahead of where I need it because that's how far I have to lean.
So when I get back to my normal seated position it is well behind and 'inside' the virtual seat.

But zeroing out in resting position this has not been a problem.
And unless you have a defective unit there is no drift with either a rift or vive.

Yep, the issue happens from my default hmd reset location, even directly after a reset. I just get that much movement backwards when looking up I guess, I am a big guy. I have it set as the key and also a voice attack, command so I am in my natural position. I have been working around the issue by setting the reset artificially far back and then moving forward into my normal play position but this is inconvenient when I need to adjust and puts my view up almost over my controls which is awkward for the immersion. I guess it's a unique issue for me but it's disappointing that it wouldn't be an issue if only the seat didn't run up above head height.

I use a seat with a headrest so I don't have this problem. I guess you could mitigate it by leaning backward a bit when you recenter the head position.

Never had this issue, perhaps it has something to do with the initial oculus setup, entering a completely out of whack user height

if your physical seat is reclined farther back than the virtual seat ingame this happens. unfortunately the only fix is to reduce the recline angle on your seat.

Like you say, lean forwards in your seat a few CM before you re centre your HMD, It also works for me as it does you. That has got to be an easier solution it only takes 1secound if you bind a button to re-centre. Also it allows you to adjust your Lazi-Boy much more.

I have the same problem as well, though I do sit fairly reclined and tend to lean back even further when looking up. Doesn't happen every time but it's generally just a quick look anyway when looking that far up.

You have to lean back before you recenter. If you lean forward, it moves your head further from center when you relax, making the problem worse if you look up.

A bit of clipping, which you could sort out yourself, and you want a new feature programmed in? Totally ridiculous request.

I also have the issue since ages even on the DK2 already and it is not nice in VR.
You can also clip into the seat when turning head looking around if you have flexible neck -(even when your seat has a real headrest like mine):)

I wish the seat headrest in game should just be clipped off at neck height in VR for more viewing freedom in game.
As a workaround I made it a habit to push my head backwards a bit on any recenter but I find that you then have a body displacement being a little bit too much near your cockpit window/alert texts/before you body...

I play exclusively in VR since the arrival of the Rift (actually a cool scifi title x.x), but i never experienced such problems. I use one of those racing chair thingies for playing.

I'm guessing it's not as big of a problem for people who are on the taller side. ;) You probably have longer necks, so when you tilt your head back, your VR "eyes" are above the headrest. Of course, the solution is to simply lean back a bit when setting your HMD position.
