Engineers Security Firmware Patch - what the hell?!

So, after attacking about 20 outpost I finally found ONE of them...
It was in lvl 3 high security base and I did it with 2 friends.
One was destroying things from python with dumbfires, me and second friend dropped and almost died multiple times. Scanning it was nightmare, base was very big with only 45 sec time. Turrents were RESPAWNING every few minutes!
It took us about hour... And I was only one who had enough luck to get one SFP.
So, I've got 4 multicannons. I need 4 of them for lvl2 upgrade and 8 of them for lvl3 upgrade. That is assuming that rng won't destroy everything.

Is there any other way to get them?

Got mine as a reward for doing missions. In fact I would say 80% of my materials were rewards or found looting USSs.

The materials will be available for any role you choose to play. Whether you're a fighter, trader, smuggler.. whatever.. you don't have to shoot that +++ security base, but If you have the ship to do it, you can. I'm doing missions now, and many come with these kind of resources as reward. Just have patience.. I really like that this thing is not an easy grind.. in fact, I think it discourages grinding and encourages players to be more versatile in the game. I've always hated the attitude of those players who are only happy when they have grinded that awesome ship, with that awesome maxed out loudout, while the game has so much more to offer. In fact, I'm a little bit happy that this is frustrating for you. ;)

But yeah, respawning defense turrets is an issue.. that's a clear bug. I wouldn't even bother with a base like that. I would make bugreport, and move on. Get out of that tunnel-vision, obsessive attitude and you will enjoy this game, and life in general, much more.

Remember, this is all just my opinion.

what the h are you talking about? You can get them only from lvl 3 high security bases, They are bugged and you can't defeat them without large wing.

Well, i never did a single ground base, because i seriously hate how they are implemented. Still...

I did not search for them specifically and do not even know where i got them. Missions and/or USS "private data beacon" things i think...

And yes, found it...

Missions award every single component as far as I can tell, that means it is very easy to get RNG'd as the reward pool is enormous.

Its still faster to refresh missions than actually look for firmware, i'd stick to getting it from missions.

I think dropping it as immediate goal and doing some random mission runnig will be the easiest way.
You can get a lot of usefull things from missions, and it is at least some fun if you take different missions...
Just do not do it the relog-refresh way because it is one more awfull grindy method....

Yes, according to inara.cz you can get these with missions. Not the cracked firmware, but you can get them in easy bases . As im a newbie, i tryied complicated ones cause they were closer to me,but it was a complete failure, so i travelled a bit and got to easy ones. In the 1st one i got 2 cracked firmwares , destroying 3 turrets, one form the ship, close beacons ans 1:30 mins time.

I've gotten them from Medium Security Bases, so raiding high sec ones aren't required. Never got one from an easy though. However, I've not once found one in a mission or USS. :(

Trying to eat bigger than you can chew is not a good idea in ED.
I am glad that large outposts are both nearly impossible to disable and scan on your own, that would feel just wrong.

From my side, I gave a two hour try with the "wrong" ship, focusing on + and ++ outposts only, and ended up with 5 Cracked industrial firmware, 2 Security firmware patch, as well as other stuff.
Sometimes I had just a groud to air turret, 3 defense turrets to disable, then had to scan 4 data points arranged in a small square configuration.

You get a bit of everything out there. If this looks impossible to do, don't do it. Focus on finding the easy ones and they may (or not) give you what you seek for.

After I am done Frameshift Wake Scanning, I will return to outpost assault with the "right" ship this time.

Wrong. I got them from base + or ++.
I tried to assault a +++ once, but though i could disable most of the base defense, I then got lost in there with my SRV, could not even scan more than 2 data points on time (I am really, very bad to orientate myself, both in real life and video games lol)
