See, THAT's why I don't play Open.

SC'ing back to the station from a RES, and a CMDR interdicts my Viper in his Vulture and just kills me for no reason. Didn't want anything, I hailed him, no reply, stowed my weapons, no reply, was drifting helplessly, no reply. I'm not that bothered, it was only 144k rebuy but it's 144k this guy took off me with no profit for himself or anything. In an hour of open play I've met 4 CMDRs, 2 killed me, 1 talked to me, 1 sparred with me. I know, it's only an hour but still..why bother?

I feel for you. Some people just seem to do it for the lulz and nothing else. Luckily I have never been interdicted by a cmdr. Might have something to do with time zones and me living in Australia.

String of bad luck? The vast majority of commanders I've met in open polite and civil.

I do play off peak time due to my timezone though, and it's been a long while since I've flown anything that'd be considered easy prey, so I guess experiances do vary.

Dispite what the PvP L33t crowd are about to tell you, if you prefer solo play - do it. Games are meant to be fun after all, but open can enrich the game quite a lot. Hopefully you give it another try when your not such a tempting target anymore.

Same for me (In NZ) I only ever seem to fly with nice folks, even the Aussies. Also a lot of Poles and Fins for some reason.

Because the danger of potentially getting killed, is exactly what's making the game interesting. It requires a little bit of practice, but once you know the basics, you will be able to handle such situations without getting killed. The vulture for example is a lot slower than the Viper, so you could easily outrun one, if you're doing it right. NPCs are just cannonfodder... they can never give you this.

If you'd rather play solo than risk 144k, then play solo. If you like the online element with bigger risk, then play online. Just don't come here to tell us why you made the decision, no one really cares.

Small potatoes. My point is the only online element I've really seen is that you can be shot down randomly by someone who has much bigger guns than you and no manners. I'll give it more time, but it's hardly a good intro to open.

I must be doing it wrong then, my Viper is all a-spec and I couldn't outrun him at all. I agree NPC's don't give you much opposition, hence why I went into open. Not being funny, I understand I'm an open combat noob.

I struggle to see another CMDR player and when I do they seem to take no notice of me.. Maybe driving a Vulture has something to do with it???

Not everyone has to be Nice in Open Play, this latest influx of "oh mummy someone interdicted and killed me last night when I was minding my own business..." <insert baby crying here> threads are simply pathetic, it's called Elite: Dangerous.....for the thousandth time the clue is in the title of the game!
Don't like the risk? play Solo....problem solved!

If everyone in the Galaxy was Nice and Polite then it'd be a very boring place to be, accept and expect danger and stop whining people!

My apologies for babying up your forum experience. Feel free to take no notice of us solo players whining in future. Consider it a kind of Forum Solo mode. :)

Sorry but I just don't understand the need to come here and whine about being killed for no reason, like I said it's a Dangerous Galaxy so accept it for what it is and carry on, Poop Happens!

Op. With all due respect your complaints are illogical because in this game NPC also perform assassinations regardless if you have cargo or not. I was attacked countless of times by npc groups and npc solos even without any cargo in my ship.

So, you are basically complaining just because is not good enough.

Stop to cry and learn to fly... or just accept defeat when happening.

Not whining, like I said, it's no big deal. Just making conversation about my open experience so far. I'll be back in open, I just wanted to know if there was any outstanding advantages I hadn't thought of. So far I reckon it'll be worth it for the combat experience but only with advice. How would you fight a vulture with a viper?

For some people, being assaulted for no reason detracts from their gameplay. It's perfectly within their rights to think so. For some people, assaulting people for no reason is the entire point of gameplay. It's perfectly within their rights to think so. For some people, finding people who assault other people for no reason, and absolutely wreck their ability to play the game, is a whole heap of fun. It's perfectly within their rights to think so. For some others, absolutely wrecking people is the only reason to play. It's perfectly within their rights to think so.

No complaints, I love the game and enjoyed being murdered, believe it or not. I got to reboot twice before I died. Looking for tips, I guess.

My combat Viper is almost 20m/s faster than the fastest Vulture that can be built.

You were probably carrying too much junk (A rating sensors and life support, armored bulkheads, overly heavy SCB unit, etc.), but more importantly how you reacted to being confronted is what resulted in the destruction of your ship. If you had time to even attempt to talk to the guy, you had time to escape.

I always assume any CMDR interdicting me is trying to destroy me, regardless of what they do or say. I always submit to any such interdiction as fighting it will put you at a grave disadvantage if you lose the tunnel game. If my opponent seems weak or incompetent, I destroy them, if not I waste no time in fleeing (often by jumping to another system entirely).

Guess it is better in open than it is in solo.

It's the same ship whatever the mode. The Vulture is the best brawler in the game. It's as manuverable as an Eagle, has the shields of a Python, and hits like a wrecking ball...not something to be triffled with in the hands of a skilled pilot. The Viper isn't a bad ship at all, but it's woefully outclassed in durability and hitting power compared to a Vulture.

That's it, thanks. I don't hold it against the CMDR. Guess I need to up my dogfighting game.
