See, THAT's why I don't play Open.

Kenny Everett for Emperor!

I find that whenever people try to dismiss something on behalf of other people with something analogous to "no one cares," they're almost always wrong. And rude. And a big meanie-headed stupid pants that secretly wants attention from people but is too deluded and foolish to admit it to themselves, much less other people.

Anyway, OP, I feel your pain. Have you ever played a little game called DayZ? Griefing people is a standard playstyle in that game. Have a gun? shoot everything you see. Don't have a gun? Find someone with a gun and punch them till you have a gun. It hardens you a bit, if nothing else.

At least with Elite, you have the entire galaxy to hide in, even if it's filled with camp-able choke points.

Yes, a friend showed it to me. I didn't fancy a post-apocalyptic marathon sim :D

Not whining, like I said, it's no big deal. Just making conversation about my open experience so far. I'll be back in open, I just wanted to know if there was any outstanding advantages I hadn't thought of. So far I reckon it'll be worth it for the combat experience but only with advice. How would you fight a vulture with a viper?

If you'd rather play solo than risk 144k, then play solo. If you like the online element with bigger risk, then play online. Just don't come here to tell us why you made the decision, no one really cares.

I CARE Don't play in OPEN , its broken , with broken ideals that risk is what open is about, instead its about other people sheer enjoyment of just blowing you up , for no money value, this is why some players hate these post , people don't wont to hear the horror of life in open  Instead they want you to stay in open and and keep getting blown up.........for their enjoyment of course .:D

Ok.... flight assist off after boost... flee if you think that is no match for whoever is attacking you...

Or use the many battle tactics possible, learning to control the settings of the ship transfering energy to shields, weapons, engine, etc, depending of the moment in the fight, as well as better manuever to be you, in the attack vector and not the contrary... training as more as you can with hard npc enemies... in preference, those in packs of strong signal sources, and in time you will no have too much problem to face more powerfull enemies, real players, etc...

But, as reality, always will be someone better than you, so you have to learn to flee when necessary or just accept a good death :)

Important is to try to do something... from your tale, you did not even try.

I feel for you. Some people just seem to do it for the lulz and nothing else. Luckily I have never been interdicted by a cmdr. Might have something to do with time zones and me living in Australia.

I'm in Perth. Been interdicted quite a few times. Especially on cargo runs for Community Goal jobs.

Most times I simply transfer all power to engines and mash the boost button. Only been killed once by a pirate. It makes for a much more exciting game - space trucking can get so tedious. Player pirates add the edge to my game, and I thank them for it :)

Admittedly, in respect to timezones and all, I do play during the day (I'm on a FIFO roster, week on week off). While the wife is at work .... ;) Woot!

Why didn't you just charge your FSD and go back into SC? A vulture can't kill a viper from a interdiction if you submit.

NPCs are just cannonfodder... they can never give you this.

In the context of the OP the CMDR attacked and made no communication whatsoever. No demands, no evil cackling. At least the NPCs have a go at making it relevant. I don't remember ever seeing an NPC attack with no dialogue, no matter how corny or stilted. Where's the advantage of playing with humans if they are less interesting than NPCs?

Don't speak for me. Plenty of people care and this kind of thing is driving more and more people out of open so you SHOULD care.

Notice the big brave killer is always in a bigger more powerful ship and quite sure to be an over-match for his prey.

Take comfort in the fact that the pilots doing that sort of thing are compensating for getting picked on in school or have anatomical deficiencies.

Or are probably just bored.

Or want to test a new PVP build.

Or assume its a game and realize its not really a big deal, because it shouldn't be.

144 K is worth the fun you get with interacting with real players. And the Viper is so fast. WHY didnt you run away?

Open play is the only reason why I got this game. How boring is it to fly through an NPC world?!

Bored? Play a different game, read a book, watch a film, go for a walk..

The CMDR who attacked the OP (and it isn't isolated to this one thread) did NOT interact. How boring is it to play with people like that?

My thoughts exactly run away is a perfectly acceptable tactic when a CMDR is playing the game his way. And if he is doing interdictions of ships in SC he is at least playing the game in a way that uses the games mechanics as they should do

I listened to the attack on TS. The OP is new to open and fairly new to the game. He decided to go and take a look at the CG and tried to communicate with another CMDR instead of running. His thrusters were shot away, his shields gone in the time it took to type a message. He rebooted his thrusters but they were gone again. Hull at 3% then game over. No reply from the CMDR to the messaging. Yes he should have run and jumped, preferably to another system. It happens. He wasn't annoyed. If anything he was puzzled as to why.

I think the OP has been unlucky. I have alwys played open, but then when exploring it doesnt make much difference anyway. When I am back in habitable space I often see other commanders, I hail them, and then watch them hyperspace away. I like the tension when you see another commander, friend or foe, you never know, adds to the immersion.
