Selecting in Galaxy Map when using Rift

I play ED exclusively with my OR DK2. The only thing that really irks me is that I've not found a way to reliably use the mouse pointer to select a star in the Galaxy Map. I use the mouse to manipulate the map, but hovering the mouse pointer over a star system rarely selects it. It usually goes wild selecting anything and everything but the star I'm hovering over. I've tried everything from closing one eye at a time to see if it's a parallax issue, zooming in or out and rotating to try and get a "clear" view of the start, all to no avail. I usually end up having to enter text to search for the star I'm already looking at before I have any hope of being able to successfully select it.

How is everybody else getting around this issue? It's a serious hindrance to really get the best out of the game and the Rift.

Thanks.

If you own a HOTAS use that instead of your mouse. You can map each axis to one for the map, it works really well. If not and you have a control pad use that instead.

I do have a HOTAS (Thrustmaster Cougar.) Does that actually help with selecting a star system in front of your face? Manipulating the map in 3D is not a problem with the mouse for me.

Yup, the cursor while using your HOTAS will appear in the correct location. It's well worth setting up, believe you will be thanking me when you no longer need to find your mouse every time you want to use the galaxy map.

What you shoud look for is the circular marker on the galaxy plane. That marker can be controlled with your HOTAS.
Move the mouse cursor off the screen so it doesn't interfere with the galaxy map at all.
Rotate the view a bit in order to get a better viewing angle on the galaxy plane.

That video explains it in more detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5jG1w_YkDY
