Newcomer / Intro selecting station in system view

Hi,

In previous versions I was able to select a station from the system view in galaxy map but that doesn't work anymore (or does it?)...

Now I have to first select the system from Galaxy map, then fly to that system and then quick quick press 1, select the station and lock as target before I overshoot it while in supercruise.

Is there any way I can lock to a station before departing from another station in another system?

I think aesu was looking for a way of selecting destinations directly from the System map, so you could plot a route to a specific station before setting off, whereas now you can only plot a route to specific systems.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

The answer unfortunately is 'not that I know of'. If there is a way, I too would love to know about it - help us out here, Commanders!

True - but it would be nice if it worked a bit like plotting multiple hyperspace jumps does at the moment, so that once you've arrived in the system, the station appears as the next target on your list, which you then supercruise to as normal. This would only apply to explored systems of course - it's hard to plot a course to somewhere you don't know about. :)

It took me over 10 minutes to fly from Sylvester city in Eravate to Yaping at LHS 3447... if I could select Yaping I could hypersjump to its vicinity instead of 110000 ly away from it :(

hmmm I understand your point... but if you are in solo it should allow you to directly go from point to point in my opinion... what is the use of flying 10-15 minutes in supercruise every trade run you make. Sorry for the crude words but I feel it is boring and unnecessary.

This is Elite not some other click and trade game.

This is how it is.

Also there is no station 11000 ly from its star :p

There is an element of danger travelling about it's core to the game.

I think the hyperspace bringing you out so close to the sun that you crash into it if you aren't paying attention is a bit silly. Why cant it just bring you out somewhere 'near' the star but a bit further than the current "warning - you are going to die" range :)

On another note: You should really be able to at least lock onto a station in system view. I hope they add this. At the moment, you have to look in system view - find the station you want, then exit system view, go into navigation, scroll down and find the station, then select it, and then lock destination. Far too cumbersome a process. You should be able to lock the destination from within system view IMO

You really know how to the suck fun out of anything.

I suggest looking into the Design Discussion Forum (DDF) archives for the reasons behind the actual gameplay designs

I think if you were actually going to travel point to point within the galaxy in a reasonable amount of time, using the largest and most easily mappable objects within that galaxy as anchor points makes sense.

Not really... the fun is sucked out of the anything by forcing me to watch a number go down from 120,000 Ls to arrival over 10 minutes... over... and over... and over... it seriously sucks the fun out of trading.

Also every single hyperspace jump causes me to nearly crash into a sun... I can't understand the fun aspect of that decision too.

The first hours of ED are frustratingly boring for me... unless there is another way to generate cash besides trading in the first hours of ED do let me know. I like the game itself insanely much, but... seriously... I am sooooo bored the time I am stuck in supercruise trying to get from station to station.

The simple answer is if you don't like the long SC time then move to another system and base yourself there.
LHS 3447 seems to be a starting system for many and is not the best given the stations are all 100 ls away from the star but it's easy to go somewhere else and avoid it.

A little trick so you don't overshoot the station you want to go to after coming out of hypercruise :
During the hypercruise sequence, you can actually slow down to a full stop, you will emerge near the destination star and instantally be dropped to minimal cruise speed, giving you all the time you want to select your next destination. It's good practice too, as some stars like white dwarves are quite dangerous to be dropped at full speed near them.

I'd spend some time watching tutorials because it seems you aren't doing right, I don't take more than 8-10 minutes to go 100Ls in system and the only time I almost crashed in the sun was the first time I fuel scooped thinking I knew how to do it.

If you find travel boring, don't trade. Pick a war zone and go there to fight or do bounty hunting.

You' ll find out that 100ls is almost nothing when you've upgraded your FSD.
Also, beware of any large planets when in SC, if you travel too close to them their gravity may slow you down severely.
If you choose to keep distance to them, you can save a lot of time even if you don't keep a straight line to your target.

Wow amazing info from all of you... thanks!
Ok new plan:
1. Switch systems
2. Look into BH
3. Watch more tutorials... learn to nav and upgrade FSD :)

Thanks for helping me getting better at this!

I got one last question... what would you recommend as a good way to start earning first credits? I picked up trading in solo to get accustomed with the game but in nearly 5 hours + I gained like 4k... enough to buy 2 extra cargo but as I said before... the Ls trips really make it hard on me.

Missions are a good way to start. A quick delivery mission can net you an easy 2-3k without investing in anything.
Exploration is another way. Fly to a system without system view available on the map, scan everything -use your basic discovery scanner to check for additional stellar bodies. Fly to next... at some point, land somewhere and sell the datas. Can be done with starter sidewinder as well.
You can also try to check USSs. If you're lucky you can find some valuable stuff floating around. Scoop them, sell them at low-security outpost at the black market (in the contacts list). But take note that this cargo is considered as stolen, so avoid security scans at all cost or you'll get a huge fine.
