Horizons Sell AspX/Vulture for Python?

I'm at that obligatory mid-life crisis in ED! :D

I have a fully loaded Vulture, and Asp X if I want it (it's heavily armed but configured for cargo). It survives fights and kills NPCs when interdicted. :D

Here are the two ships as they are presently configured:

Asp X (cargo, armed): https://coriolis.io/outfit/asp/0pftiFflidfsnf527270p0p202004040403054a2tf3020101.Iw18WQ==.Aw18WQ==

Vulture (it's a Vulture!): https://coriolis.io/outfit/vulture/2patfFalddksif30v7l0403--4a35272525.Iw19kA==.IwBhrSvSg===

If I want to kill things, I have to fly back to where the Vulture is stored - no problem. If I want to go somewhere to kill things, that gets a liiiiiiittle more interesting due to the non-existent range of the Vulture (hence the fuel scoop!).

To my dilemma...

To trade both ships for a Python: https://coriolis.io/outfit/python/0...34i3ff6040403v62i2f.Iw18eQ==.MwBhCYy6EYayVQiA

After trade-in I would have a cool 101 M credits, so I think the bank says OK. ;) The problem is whether it is a good idea? Would I miss the Vulture?? I have a blast with it (pun most definitely intended) that's for sure! :D

Is the Python a capable hunting machine OR, like the Asp, is it more for defense than offense? The Asp can be awkward if you're not paying attention, but against NPCs it does OK (even if they are more maneuverable). I know I wouldn't deliberately go looking for trouble in the Asp.

I like the multi-role, go-anywhere capability of the Python. I'm also aware that multi-role has limitations. I like the fact it could be configured to haul a lot more than the Asp can take, so doing more trade to build the bank balance afterwards would not be out of the question.

I'm torn between keeping the AspX and Vulture, or selling both and getting the Python. I would like to go explore for a bit, and whilst the AspX has good single-jump range, the Python is kicking its (on paper) for overall range vs. payload.

Hmm.

[up]

If it were me, I'd keep at least one so when the inevitable happens you aren't flying the sidey...

This is the basic ship as of now! She flies and fights good!

I kept the power distributor at 7D for now, for a bit more jump range (~1.7 Ly, or 14%!).

For anyone thinking of getting the Python - check the price first. If you can afford it, it is worth the upgrade from an AspX. The only thing to be aware of is it does have a shorter jump range, so if that matters, stick to the Asp. With a fuel scoop and additional fuel tank(s) however, it has greater overall jump range between refuels, and it refuels very fast considering its size!

Long-range trader (390 Ly un-refuelled range): https://coriolis.io/outfit/python/0...7040404034f3ef6040403020201.Iw18eQ==.Aw18eQ==

Did I mention the sound? It sounds like it has a nice V12 under the hood! :D

Hello,

great thread at the right time, 'cause i'm just doing the same step from AspX /Vulture to a Python.
In my case i have around 70 Millions in Cash an AspX and a Vulture, both are worth ~20 Millions each which i'm going to cash in. Maybe i keep the hulls.
That's enough (for the ship, outfitting for it purpose, load cargo and insurance) to buy this
https://coriolis.io/outfit/python/0...40505054d040302022f.Iw18eQ==.Aw18eQ==?bn=Test
for short jump loops
or this one
https://coriolis.io/outfit/python/0...40505054d380302022f.Iw18eQ==.Aw18eQ==?bn=Test
if i have to go any further.

I my choice have any unseen problems, please tell me!

With this Python(s) the focus is on trading, so fighting is not an option.
Somebody told me about the 'Chinese' Li Yong-Rui and the 15% discount.
It's around 10 Millions and easily worth flying some Ly's

Yup the sound is just awesome, I enjoy it also. But keeping it at 100t worth of cargo for long range is something I wouldn't use the Python for and my outfit is without guns and lots more cargo space but I guess everybody can play with it how it wants after all, most important to have fun in it :)

Bear in mind that with 2.2 you can order your Vulture to be delivered to where you want it.

I'm in basically the same position, although I have a clipper I'll probably sell to buy my first Python, keeping my Asp, Cobra and Vulture. I could never sell my Asp, it's been my go-to for a year and my Cobby is just too much fun to fly.

I already have a fully loaded Vulture back in the hangar, though the Python, even stock, is no slouch at combat. [alien]

I was just demonstrating the flexibility of the Python for those who were interested. [up] I was torn between keeping or selling the Asp. I sold, as I thought it a shame to hangar the Python just to go mission/cargo running in the Asp!

I love the python, she's my go-to for mission running. The only thing that I would suggest is that you might be better off with the 6A distributor, it has more capacity for a very small increase in weight. With level 5 fsd and level 3 dirties she's faster than a stock FDL and still jumps almost 19 lightyears with composite bulkheads (and that's without a million rolls for the very best numbers). I'll run from a couple of Anacondas, but not much else. The big thing with the python is to keep it in the blue for turning, and that's not easy as she's still a big boat even though she doesn't feel like it.

Edit: for the sake of accuracy, I checked the specs on my python and she's only as fast as a stock FDL, not faster. I'm sorry for any pain that my over exuberant hyperbole might have caused. While I'm correcting the record, she'll jump over 19 ly with a 160 ton load.

Did I mention that I love me some python?

I've got mine up to L2 dirty drives and L3 FSD jmp range. Nearly 26 Ly. Trying to find the ever elusive components to get to L4 FSD and L3 dirty drives.

Do the levels stack, or does only the last level count? If they stack, can you re-do e.g. L2 if you have L3 and improve things, or would L3 need doing again?

Only the mod level you currently possess is active. If you re-roll for a mod, it will remove and discard the previous one, installing the new one.
