I’m going to give mining another try my first attempt was a bust I spent an evening outfitting the Krait MK II and locating a ring but even in solo there were gankers already waiting for me NPC I suppose but I’m really not into combat yet and my time is too precious to waste doing fights I did not look for, put the Krait back to Exploration it’s slow but so far a lot less annoying way to earn some credits for engineering.
So I’ve scrapped up enough credits that I could get into an Anaconda right now IF I sell my Krait MK II, I like my Krait but I’ve been aiming at the Anaconda all along, has anyone made this switch? We’re you happy with it?
Or should I really just keep grinding and keep both?
Ok so mining is not for me at the moment, here is what happened...
Ok...my input on this.
Keep the Krait...it's a great ship and very flexible, can perform most roles in the game admirably.
Keep working towards the Anaconda...another great all rounder but it can't land at outposts so it's not great for missions. A good trader but again only if you are trading to the larger stations and planets.
I have both ships and use both ships though the Krait gets a lot more use due to it's versatility. The Anaconda once engineered and with guardian modules has the largest jump range of any ship in the game and it has the slot layout to outfit for long exploration trips and self sufficiency. It is however a bit of a pig to fly in SC and it can be tricky landing on planets. I prefer the AspX for exploring...many have switched to the Krait Phantom as their exploration ship of choice.
If you look at the recent / current distant worlds expedition the Anaconda is still the most popular ship on the expedition which does point to it still being the king of exploration.
Oh yes...one more thing...when mining, once you have blown the core, open your cargo hatch, it prevents you from boosting and means your limpets can actually deposit the minerals in your hold. Thrust control is key when core mining. Go slow, don't boost and utilise heavy use of the lateral and ventral thrusters to prevent too much forward momentum, especially in a medium or large ship.
Rookie mistakeNot a mining problem, a bind problem. I did something similar in my first few days in the game, just ramming into a station instead. Don't bind the boost key to anything that's easy to hit absent-mindedly.
Keep the Krait.
Turn it into a core miner. Make 5 void opal core mining runs. Earn over 1 billion credits in a day.
Buy your Anaconda, keep your Krait. Customize the Anaconda for long range exploration (Nothing A rated but the FSD) and still have about 800m Credits left over to customize your Krait or buy any other ship you were looking at.
The anaconda is not useless. It's a great long range jumper. It can also be good (but not great) at everything else. It's the swiss army knife of ships. It can be used for anything.
My current favorite exploration ship is the Imperial Courier. It is much cheaper than the Anaconda (about 12m credits total) but you need to engineer it to make it shine. It's super fast, nimble and lightweight. Fuel scooping is a joy, as you are topped off before your FSD cools down. Fully engineered, my Courier's top speed is 640m/s and can boost to 869m/s. It has an srv and a jump range of 48ly. It has everything you need to explore: Fuel Scoop, SRV, DSS, AMFU, Shields, Heatsinks.
Of all the ships i have bought, I have never sold my Krait II, Anaconda, or Corvette. I first kitted my Conda out for trade, and its an absolute dog until you get the A rated thrusters. Running trade missions allowed me to buy a corvette which is my go-to combat vessel. I was then able to aquire a mining python, and I stopped doing heavy trading with the Conda. i have since kitted it out as an exploration vessel, but with full hardpoints.
Id say you can ignore people saying it is hard to land on some planets, as i literally landed mine inside guardian sites for those missions. It is a little slow, and not exactly nimble in SC. however I love the Idea of exploring in a massive vessel. For me, I would feel better going on a long trip with a giant, self-sufficient ship with all my toys (AMFU, repair limpets, refuel limpets, 4 SRVs, fighter bay, cargo hold, etc).
My advice would be to wait until you can buy it outright, without selling the krait. When you get into the later stages of the game, it becomes better to have a fleet of ships. My Krait has gone from my only ship, to a cargo runner, to an explorer, and it is not my thargoid hunting ship. I got a Phantom now too as a taxi/multi purpose ship.
TLDR; If you like a ship, don't sell it. you can always get more money
Common experience here is: sell python, buy anaconda, not enough money to A-rate, anaconda is a crap, buy python back.
It is hard to share such experience, you should definitely try it by yourself)
The Krait MKII is the perfect ship. I kept mine, even though I use a Corvette...for the most part. It can house an SLF, it's maneuverable, it has tons of fire power, it has the best cockpit in the game...especially for exploring. It can be outfitted for combat, mining, or be a sweet explorer, it can dock at small-medium pad docks, where the Anaconda cannot. And like someone else suggested, "you NEVER buy a ship without factoring in at least a couple re-buys, but you should also factor in upgrades. When you aim for a big ship, like the Corvette, Conda, or Cutter, always factor in about 2 1/2 times the cost of the ship. That will insure re-buy, and most of the upgrades. I'm never comfortable with the credits I have. Even just flying a Corvette. I currently have 349,000,000 and my re-buy is 47,000,000. It sounds like I have a lot, but that's roughly 8 chances. Granted, unless I'm very PVP involved, it's hard to die in a fully G5 fitted Vette. You would basically have to want to die...or carelessly face Medusas. I suck against those. In truth, I love flying the smaller ships more. It's more "dog fighty." Engineer the hell out of the Krait. Get used to the mechanics and the upgrade effects etc., as you save up, proper, for the Conda. Then keep both ships. You want to keep at least one ship able to dock at small docks. The Krait is perfect for this. You'll use it more for smuggling and data couriers. If you are very keen on the Conda, outfit the Krait for mining and take it Opal farming. You'll have more than enough credits in less than 2 days for a Conda. Probably just a day. Once you get used to which rocks to look for, for opals, it will literally only take you about 2 hours to save up for a Conda...from scratch. I have very little time to play during the week and even I managed over 500 mil just farming opals for roughly two hours in two days.
No open for me I’m old school single player I’ve no patience with gankers lol
