Selling Exploration Data = Faction Rep increases?

Hi everyone,

I cant remember if this was ever a thing or not. maybe i got confused with Brabens comments waaay back in alpha when he talked about selling data off to both imperials and feds and getting into trouble. BUT...

Does selling exploration data at a FED controlled system increase my friendliness with them the same as trading does?

Cheers,

GC

I was wondering the very same thing. And in order to increase, say, Fed ranks, should an explorer sell his data to different sub-factions in different stations ?

it takes a fiar bit of data but yes combined with donation missions and some trade as u go around it is a good way of getting some ranking up with a group of factions

6 million will make you allied with a minor faction. Unfortunately, the major factions don't care any more whether you become allied with the minor factions.

Selling exploration data to faction part of empire will increase rep with that faction. But you will become allied with minor faction long before you reach allied status with major faction like federation. So you need a lot of exploration data. As far as i know you can´t make progress to your military ranks with exploration data as only missions give you progress towards military rank up.

Good addition Leo! thnx

OK thnx guys so it seems spreading the data love in 6 million chunks about a few minor factions of a major faction may help me with social ranks but yeah not military ones.

Yes it will increase your standing.
Make sure you sell to a Fed corporation in a Fed owned station. Or the same for empire.
I'm topping up my standing each time I return, it has dropped but increase as soon as I've sold the data (and waited a few minutes / session change to see the changes).

Rather than selling to the big powers, consider using the data to become allied with factions that issue system permits (ie Alioth, Hecate etc). Probably more useful in the long run.

Correct: selling exploration data increases your reputation with the faction that controls the station you sell it to. It does nothing to contribute to ranking-up in the Fed or Imp aux navies.

It is most useful in gaining rep with a ruling Indie faction, as getting rep with Indie factions is always slowest because you are never given a boost by gaining rep with the major powers. And, as stated above, a good use of it is to become Allied with an Indie faction that issues a permit. Alioth (Alliance capital) works like an Indie faction permit-holder in this regard. Check the permits thread here on the forum to see which systems gain you which benefits (if any) and where you have to go to hand in exploration data for those permits.

I scored the Alioth permit with only two weeks worth of exploration data.
