Sensitive topic... but about the store prices and game content.

I am willing to pay for extra content as long as it's not pay to win for example if they were to release in Imperial or federal rank back so that someone doesn't have to do the grind.

perhaps in the future they will add some unlockable goodies to the game. I'm not opposed to that. Provides a goal for folks.

I was a bit disappointed to see how much they were but I was going to spend twenty quid and I did. I just got fewer skins than I'd hoped.
My poor Ferdy is going to have to suffer the disgusting Stoke colours for a little while longer if I'm going to buy Horizons (which I am)

The Fer De Lance looks just like the ship from Raiden, so the default skin is OK by my book. Haha.

Everything's been said already, but personally speaking I do think the skins are a little too pricey. Were the price dropped a little, I'd be willing to buy a good many more and they'd make more money overall.

I'd really not take too kindly to content being unlockable in the game, though. As far as I'm concerned, all the stupidly expensive ships in the game ARE the unlockables already... ;-)

/edit

I'm willing to spend a hundred or so quid on the core game itself, though (Horizons and whatever else is released). Elite's like nothing else on console, and my PC's can't handle a game of that comparable quality (plus I just don't enjoy gaming on PC), so I definitely feel I'm getting value for money in general.

And that conclusion is always $$$ I'll bet. --Momentai :3

Normally, microtransactions in any game lead to an angry fanbase, but FD has taken this the right way. As long as they never sell anything that gives an actual edge in gameplay, like buying credits with money or buying ships, certain modules or upgrades, etc, then I think what they're doing is fine and doesn't need to be changed.

I don't disagree one bit. --Momentai :3

Except that I'm not saying they need to change anything other than maybe consider some unlockable content as opposed to it ALL being purchase only.

But it is what it is as you know I'm fully aware of. Lol.

I don't disagree with you either, I just don't see it happening. --Momentai :3

No one would buy skins, because they'd use the unlockable ones that show "I did this and I got a skin for it". Right now all the skins are equally wanted by people because it's a matter of preference. Add unlockables to the mix and you make the purchasable skins looked down on. "You bought your skin, I earned mine." and so on, even if they make brand new skins just for unlocks.

Not paintjobs but they have done various decals that were given for taking part in certain events ,so that is a form of unlockable content.
A think most of us here will be receiving the gpp one in the none to distant future .

Then the guy who earned his realizes that the skin the other guy bought looks better then the one he earned and buys one of his own. --Momentai :3

Yeah, I'd like to see some unlockable skins. 1,000 player ships destroyed, 1 billion in bounties/trade/etc earned. To those saying "well if you add super hard to earn skins then SUDDENLY NO ONE WILL BUY SKINS EVAR" you're a complete nitwit. Look at games that have that model. Like Warframe, for example. Nearly every item in game, with the exception of some purely cosmetic items can either A: be purchased with premium currency or B: built for free by gathering the resources and buying the blueprint with the in-game non premium currency I.E. "Earning it.".

Digital Extremes is ROLLING in the dough. And Warframe is FREE.

Plenty of people will still buy the skins. In fact, if you limit the "free skins" to being huge milestones to work towards then all you're doing is adding goals and content. And if you for a second think that

Add unlockables to the mix and you make the purchasable skins looked down on. "You bought your skin, I earned mine."

Then you have the wrong attitude in life sir. All you're doing is looking down on people who work hard to earn things. That'd be like a rich person who's eating a steak laughing at a farmer who raises cattle and eats his own beef. "Oh you earned your beef? I bought mine... So clearly I am morally superior because I don't need to prove to other people that I can achieve goals."

I have spent £25 on the store for the alphabetical bobbleheads and 3 sets of paints. I really want to obtain more, but I consider with the pending purchase of Horizons that this could become extortionate, although entirely optional, I appreciate.

Bottom line... With this being a paid for game, will FD ever consider allocating some of the content as ingame unlockables?

Special chrome paints being £9.99 each fair enough, but some of the single skins could be unlockables, say for example you kill 100 ships in a Cobra, then you unlock a skin.

Ideas?
Honestly, I find the prize for horizon a steal, even at original price point.
A game I play very often, access to a whole years worth of new content.
Seems perfectly fine to me.

That said, they should add 'some' stuff as unlocks within the game if you ask me, however these should be mostly decals and other kinds of minor cosmetics, in my book. Powerplay decals, faction rank decals? some such stuff.

I'm absolutely ok with the prices if it means more future content. I think it would be neat to make a stand alone paint booth dlc. They could charge for it and sell color packs and decal packs. It would make them money and also let us creat our own paint jobs.

I agree that some earned free stuff decals ect should be in game, many other games have earned bits and paid extras . Halo for example had bought skins and if you had completed legendary in other halo titles you unlocked exclusive bits why shouldn't ED be able to do the same. If it's a skin or a decal you can only get from cqc it may get me to play as there isn't a incentive for me to do it at the moment or a pirate decal for so much pirate booty I'll give that type of play ago as at the mo it doesn't appeal to me but throw in something I have to do to unlock it then color me obsessed in getting it. At the mo trying to do artillery missions in wot just to get a free tank and playing artillery sucks massive balls but hey I'm doing it to unlock something free in a pay to win game

It's only fair to expect unlockables and cosmetics.
You either grind for it or pay for it.
The argument being if you don't have time to play for it you can pay for it.
If you do have time then it keeps those gamers playing longer hours making the game more populated.

??????
Everyone is talking about getting unlockable decals like that isn't already a thing....
Each rank has it's own decal within the pilots federation. You can only put the Elite rank decal IF you've unlocked it.

Personally I like the subs system TESO uses. £8.99 a month in exchange for £11.99's worth of currency for cosmetic items PLUS access to all DLC? Yeah, I quite like that model. But, of course, that wouldn't work with ED since ED's DLC is not story-type content but rather extensions to gameplay mechanics. :(
