Separate (Saves/Accounts) for Open and Solo/Private.

I believe that we should have the separated accounts (or CMDR saves) for Open and Solo/Private.

Open play can default to it's regular settings with no question.

Private Group (varying on group) can have reward (money/rank/materials) sliders and re-buy sliders. Also can have a PVP flag from disabled, requested, or enabled.

Solo can have the same as private, minus the PVP slider obviously.

Just an idea. It would probably help the player base and lower the grind and griefing complaints.

To be honest, I also suggested a separate universe for PvE and PvP.
Simply because PvP and PvE don't mix well. So I figured, why not separate them? PvE can have more fun with the weapons, and PvP can be balanced to a T.

I want to ride a dinosaur...

Yeah. I am in complete agreement. But if you want to watch some fun Ark gameplay (or any for that matter) look up Sheriff Eli Thompson on Youtube and Twitch.

Don't we already have the ability to run two different accounts through a batch file? Couldn't this then be done -- to some extent -- already?

I think the problem with the way people will run from Open to Private/Solo is because of the griefing that can happen during some Player Operations along with general bullying that can occur. I find myself not agreeing with the thought of two separate universes given the amount of hardware that it might require for such an endeavor.

Oh and.... everything craps in that game. They only just added toilets. Still... Poo is everywhere.

I meant regulated by FDev for PC and Console.

If they can run thousands of instances on one server then they can probably separate into 2 at ease.

I believe that having Open separated from (Solo/Private) is a great way to remedy the main issues people have in this game. Griefing, Grinding, and balance.

I strongly think we still have an issue with Combat Logging and Griefing that needs to be better addressed first, before running to creating separate server instances between Open/Private Group and Solo. Grinding, I know the Devs admitted to it and know it exists too much in the game, but I am unsure whether this will be addressed any time in the foreseeable future.

As a long-time solo player, I have played open for the last 6 months I have come to warm up more to open play in my time. The issue I have though is 1. I play at unusual hours and 2. I spend far more time in the Deep Black than in the Bubble. When I am in the Bubble, I did avoid my home base of operations thanks to the open announcement of Operation: Sirius Business (which would have put me at odds with some of the player group that contributed with the blockades).

But I admit that I have been more fortunate in my dealings than others that have far louder complaints on both.

And no... you oversimplified it here. With this proposal you'll be runnin two galaxies both with thousands of instances. You're essentially doubling the amount of instances... Do you remember the matchmaking instances errors logging you out of the game? I do... I got them even in Solo. No thanks. Not a fan of that potentially repeating any time in the near future.

Addressing combat logging is a waste of time. Spacehead had a great idea but it will sadly never be implemented.
Griefing could easily be fixed by actually having a player damage flag in private group custom game settings. Open should never be moderated since it is open play.

If they build a new server set for just open profiles and keep solo/private on the original it can easily be done.

I think this has already been discussed to death. I'd love to see this, but it won't happen. Not even if someone creates the same thread again in a few weeks.

All right I'll play along a little bit... If these suggestions are so easy to address the problems (implementation has always been a problem because of the slow manner for things to be implemented in any MMO-type game), I can't see how rushing this suggestion ahead of these problems is going to do anything other than generate the superiority noise of Open players taunting die hard Solo players from playing in a sandbox with training wheels?

And it will believe me.

I know it already exists. I've seen it as a lurker... Even before I used my fingers to posting on the forums back in January, I ensured to never announce I was a solo player for concerns of repercussions. If anything based on the way this game allows someone to go from Open to Solo and affect a mission/CG from that environment seems a perfect sort of retribution for combat logging & griefing.

As the devs like to say whenever there's any disparaging noise about the galaxy, "Welcome to cut-throat gaming."

You can't have your cake and eat it too. So I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish with two universes other than to make one completely cut-throat and eventually toxic, while the other pristine, sanitized and cloistered.

1. Who cares...
2. People only go on open play for open PVP and griefing. There is no other benefit.

For the "training wheels"?

For a game that this is should strongly avoid any MMO tendency of redundant grinding. A lot of people who play this game maybe has 2 hours a day if they are lucky. And honestly you don't move up a a good pace of staying invested. So you end up stuck in a loop of doing glorified fetch and delivery quests.

This is just what I thought would be a great idea but I guess we can just sit on our thumbs until the next game that distracts us pulls us away.

Grinding aside (and I have been thinking about several suggestions for that), Solo Play and Open play have the same amount of grind going on in them one having less griefing from other players. Assuming you're also suggesting to remove less grind from Solo Play, you'll be opening the salt mines to be thrown by the dump truck full by Open Players. And that will turn ugly in no time.

1. If you don't (care) -- as the phrase does in fact imply -- then why should anyone else care for your contributions on the suggestion? The problem with this approach to a debate of any sort sets the poster up for someone simply making noise for the sake of noise. If you approach the suggestion (along with any counter debate points/arguments) with the same care that it's something done for the betterment of self and community, people might actually consider it something to work with. I like the idea... However, I don't think it'll be implemented for a number of reasons, first and foremost is the fact that it can require resources that Frontier might not have to commit to its creation. Second it does in a way go against the cut-throat attitude that this game fosters within the community. I have been extremely slow to accepting this approach as it goes against my basic philosophy to approaching humanity no matter the good, the bad and the ugly that can reside therein.

2. Your perspective seems to be flawed on the thought that what you're seeing is the truth, not one truth among many. I am clearly the exception to that rule. I despise PvP with PUGs. I have experienced sore winners as much as I have sore losers. I despise griefing. I do on occasion chat with acquaintances I've made on Inara while in Open Play (still haven't multi-crewed with one, but it's only a matter of time). I have recently become acquainted with a player working the Sothis/Ceos runs as I'm back there for the sake of being there since Operation: Sirius Business has concluded. I get to see wanted Commanders as I'm running haulage that seem uninterested in what I'm carrying and more importantly haven't attracted their attention for griefing. I won't combat log, but at the same time I won't shut off the option about report crimes against me either when I'm killed.

For the "training wheels?" comment. I know about harassment, I've lived with that beast for a long time, that will be an insult thrown. And one of the more civilized of them as well.

I think what you're mentioning here isn't part of the problem being suggested in this thread but of a greater problem that should be addressed. You can try or I can... But with me it takes a while as I tend to formulate my suggestions like I write presentations to the Usenet. Very long-winded and thought out.

No kidding. Probably with a PowerPoint presentation too. Then at the end you shoot your own idea down.

Heh. This is not long-winded. At times, I've been moved to reply to other posts with texts so incredibly dense, lengthy and convoluted that Frontier moderators have been known to found their own religions while skimming a single paragraph. :D
