Please excuse me this pre-second cup of coffee rant.
Scrolling through my morning reading today I find not one, not two but THREE posts about how Elite Dangerous needs to be more like another game that the Thread Owner likes SO much. Really? Then GO. Load up that other game you like and play it. For the last two years these forums have seen some awesome posts ranging from How To's to serious debate over the existence of man in the universe at large. We have seen funny posts, screen shot posts (usually ending up as part of my ever growing wallpaper collection, thanks CMDR anikaiful for starting that monstrous thread that STILL isn't a Sticky) and GOODBYE posts. The one group of posts that I usually skip, but still occasionally read, are the whiny Why Can't This Game Be More Like Blah. I don't think I have ever wanted to shout at someone "Shut up and enjoy what you have" as much as when I read these dang things.
Short Answer: Because this isn't that game.
Shorter Answer: Cuz.
No, this game, at present, isn't (big gasp of air) EVE, Star Citizen, No Man's Sky, World of Warcraft (for market place I assume?), Kerbal Space Program, Freelancer, the entire X series, Limit Series, Space Engineers, Freespace 1 or 2, or any of the Star Craft games. And thank the lucky stars it's not. I like the originality of ED.
But I can understand why someone doesn't like it. I can understand why someone wants it to be like another game. I can. Somethings I do not like about ED. Somethings drive me nutso crazy. However, like the gambler who knew he was being swindled said... It's the only game in town. And to these people who constantly are complaining I say this: Go to Kickstarter and make a plea. Create a list of what you want your game to be, detail out what your expectations are and what goodies you will give out for the different levels of donations. Don't worry if you don't know how to code or create things as you can always hire that done with the money you raise. Do these things and get your game made. It worked before, it can work again.
Where did I put my coffee cup?
