Seriously? ... Another "Why can't this be like that other game thread"??

Personally, i like how FD are not copying other games. Gives the game a different feel.

Would be horrible if this game just copied elements from other games.

Well i wouldn't mind if they copied some ideas - fun for example could replace mind-numbingly boring. They should not steal ideas but perhaps recognise that actual engaging gameplay could be of benefit.

I think any discussion in these forums is fine, suggesting improvements to ED based on what other games are doing is fine, games should copy one another if the features are good. Actually, I wish FD would listen a little more to these people and stop trying to make a completely unique game. Just because they come up with completely new content, it doesn't make it good, look at how they did engineers, I can think of several other games that do "engineering" or upgrading your stats sooooooo much better than this super-powered RNGineering, it's silly, and I feel like FD just ignored a lot of great pre-existing systems to make their own fresh take on it, just to have it unsurprisingly fall flat.

But you hate the game with a passion and nothing they ever do will make you like any aspect of it. I'm surprised you can donate so much time to something you could so easily ignore.

No, no, no. I love aspects of the game. This is why, like a fool, I'm sticking around, hoping that it gets better.

Can we instead request that Elite be *less* like certain other games?

I'd like Elite to *stop* taking inspiration from: Diablo, Farmville, Candy Crush, Korean MMOs, JRPGs, and Social Media cell phone games. Steer away from that stuff and I'll agree to avoid pointing out games which are doing something *right* and which could be used as inspiration. Deal?

Chuckles ^^ nearly choked on that one.

So true, I'd rather see ED taking clues from the successfull part of EvE the X serie and less clues from Korean MMOS and mobile games. Just sayin'
But since speaking of the games that should not be named irritates some sensibilities here, we'll just wait for FD to rediscover the wheel. Several times. Instead of
pointing to the good stuff and avoiding wasting time rediscovering things that have been done really well since the 90's.

I would mind, I'd rather we gave them the full 10 years + to make their own game their own way with their own character, I don't play elite to give me a fix for another game. I want distinct experiences not a mish mash of generic titles that all do the same thing in the same way.

Well, it seems more and more a design by (forum) commity thing, so unless FD start to stick to their guns a bit more it's not gonna end well.

But yeah, ED has a distinct feel, and I'm not speaking of the pointless time walls, but the gritty feel of the universe (well, less and less with engie ships, since there is no danger anymore)
and roots in realism for the galaxy gen.

Would hate to see it turn in to Elite : Conda Crush :p (which is very much a thing with any engineered big3 going to a CZ)

As the OP, I realize I might have been a little salty... like I said it was pre-second cup of joe, but my sentiment is unchanged.

Yes, there are aspects of other games in this game. Hell, you could make a case that every game has aspects of The Oregon Trail in it. (You have died of dysentery). No, ED isn't perfect. I still like it. It's still the only game I fire up when I have time to play anything. All I said was I am tired of people clamoring about what this game needs to be and not enjoying it for what it is.

And while I'm here... the term 'give an inch, they take a mile' is going to happen. Mark my words. Once we have the ability to walk around, it won't be 15 minutes before the "where's the gunz" posts start. Then it will fall into "fdev make space legs fps or I'm leaving". You know this to be true. While you can't please everyone all the time how about just sitting down and playing the game we have with a nice big cup of shut the... no... no more salt.

Rep or no rep, we all have thoughts and opinions on this. I am not saying mine is more right than yours. We, as a society at large, have lost the ability to see arguments from the other side. "I'm right, you're wrong cuz I say so" is what we have devolved to.

Second cup tastes so much better than the first. Maybe because the first burns away the tastebuds.

People are too used to having their imagination filled for them, that's why.

They can't think original thoughts or create their own fun.

Blame TV, the Internet, Games Consoles and lazy parents.

That's why.

I get inspiration from other games for suggestions I post.

But I do not want ED to be a different game. I would just like a feature similar to what a different game may have, which I particularly found useful or enjoyed.

But I never say "why isn't ED like game XYZ!?".

What particularly annoys me, is when people demand the game be more like a game I actually hate. Lol

As long as the reasons for lifting concepts are their appropriateness for Elite gameplay improvement then steal anything. Just don't steal it because "well Game X has one, I should have it". It should always be a case of merit and the positive gain for this game.

I'm a little disappointed with how they respond to forum salt. Seems like they listen at the wrong times and ignoreat the wrong times. Tbh I'd still be happy if they completely ignored all most all feedback (apart from balance) and just did whatever they wanted, might end up with a flawed diamond, but a diamond none the less.

For the life of me, I can't see what console gaming has to do with anything. I take it you don't, or never have, owned an Xbox or PS4... or are you just arrogant enough to believe that only children and those of limited attention span play games on console?

I was a PC gamer for many, many years, went over to Xbox due to circumstance, returned to PC recently after playing on Xbox for 7 years or so.... mainly since there aren't many flight sims on console and very unlikely to be any of substance at any point in the future...

I put over a year into ED on Xbox, many hundreds of hours into Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout and the Witcher series during that time. From what I can gather, that's almost the same game catalogue as many I knew playing on PC...

You ask for people not to compare ED to unreleased games, and at the same time you draw the "ED has a long road of development ahead of it"-card.

Which is it then ?

SC hasn't released, because they know they're far from done. Just as ED is far from done ?

Aren't you just cherry picking the best from both scenarios for ED, whichever is the most convenient in the context of the discussion.

Not that you're the first or only one to do that of course, it's rampant around here.

I think it's just cool to shut people down when they don't agree with you. Admittedly, it does feel cool to tell people to stop whining, it's very short lived though so it's great that there's so many threads to apply it to.

Please excuse me this pre-second cup of coffee rant.

Scrolling through my morning reading today I find not one, not two but THREE posts about how Elite Dangerous needs to be more like another game that the Thread Owner likes SO much. Really? Then GO. Load up that other game you like and play it. For the last two years these forums have seen some awesome posts ranging from How To's to serious debate over the existence of man in the universe at large. We have seen funny posts, screen shot posts (usually ending up as part of my ever growing wallpaper collection, thanks CMDR anikaiful for starting that monstrous thread that STILL isn't a Sticky) and GOODBYE posts. The one group of posts that I usually skip, but still occasionally read, are the whiny Why Can't This Game Be More Like Blah. I don't think I have ever wanted to shout at someone "Shut up and enjoy what you have" as much as when I read these dang things.

Short Answer: Because this isn't that game.

Shorter Answer: Cuz.

No, this game, at present, isn't (big gasp of air) EVE, Star Citizen, No Man's Sky, World of Warcraft (for market place I assume?), Kerbal Space Program, Freelancer, the entire X series, Limit Series, Space Engineers, Freespace 1 or 2, or any of the Star Craft games. And thank the lucky stars it's not. I like the originality of ED.

But I can understand why someone doesn't like it. I can understand why someone wants it to be like another game. I can. Somethings I do not like about ED. Somethings drive me nutso crazy. However, like the gambler who knew he was being swindled said... It's the only game in town. And to these people who constantly are complaining I say this: Go to Kickstarter and make a plea. Create a list of what you want your game to be, detail out what your expectations are and what goodies you will give out for the different levels of donations. Don't worry if you don't know how to code or create things as you can always hire that done with the money you raise. Do these things and get your game made. It worked before, it can work again.

Where did I put my coffee cup?

Triggerposting? Moving on...
