Server issues

To fix "The game failed to communicate with the authentication server. Please check your internet connection and try again in a few minutes." issue, open the launcher. Go to options > log out machine then restart launcher. Elite Dangerous sent me an identification code

Can you guys confirm whether the change of router or restart of the router solved the issue for those who kept receiving "The game failed to communicate with the authentication server. Please check your internet connection and try again in a few minutes." message? Or was it only me who got lucky?

Because it surely worked for me!
Nope - this morning I reset my router - just now I tried to run ED, launcher says servers are OK, but game fails to connect 'The game failed to communicate with the authentication server. Please check your internet connection and try again in a few minutes.'
So I still can't play ED - well done Frontier.
I have 3 accounts - I tried all 3 of them - all I have is a crappy launcher, a nice enough slash screen and an error message, then back to the crappy launcher.

Have you done the "Log out machine" fix that people have referred to?

I did try that the other day, but it didn't work.
Today I re-updated via Steam ( no idea why steam still thought it needed updating, but it did it twice! ) - it made no difference.
So I logged out of the launcher and logged back in again - this time it actually did the verify code stuff and FINALLY I was able to connect.

Now I need to repeat that process for my other 2 accounts since Frontier are happy to sell you multiple accounts and insist on making the game require a crappy launcher that has literally NO useful features!!! and obviously no support for multiple accounts.

UPDATE - now I have done the whole logout, login, verify, copy user.config file etc for all 3 accounts, I can actually play the game again, but my lunch hour is over so I can't.

Commanders, look to the lower right of the screen, if it says there is an "Invalid Machine ID Error" this is how I fixed it.

Click Launcher
Click Options (top)
Click Log out machine
Reauth with email notification code** OR, just click a steam login button on the launcher" if you are using steam and you are good to go.

I have been having log in issues from patch too - followed this (log out of machine, then back in) and now works perfectly fine.

Rated thumbs up :)

Interesting - I have more accounts than that and only needed to do the validation code on one. Mind you they all use the same installation, just different copies of EDLaunch.exe - be that as it may, still only one validation code and all work.

I didn't have to do the log-out machine nonsense though, no server or update issues, so maybe that is why you had to do each account.

Glad you are back in the game (well, when you can be ;)) .

Cmdr SleepyDelegate.... Dude! Stop with the connect to a different wifi and 'just reset your router' comments.... Seriously, neither of these things has anything to do with the situation. The fact that you connected after changing Wifi is a coincidence that your suggesting is a solution. Its not. There is no stateful connection between anyone's router and ED before launching the game that would be reset as a result of resetting the router. Now if someone suggested that there is a port forwarding situation causing the issue and that the wifi that you changed to was in some sort of DMZ, or anything to that effect, your comments would have merit.

Its been a month and Im still having issues connecting to the servers. Has anyone come up with a fix or Know what the issue might be? Ive already submitted a ticket. My firewall isnt the issue, My router isnt the issue...Im really starting to lose patience with Frontier on this. (Sidenote, Im using an Oculus Rift and launching the game through the Oculus Library).

i had same issues 2 weeks ago. I talked to my providers support and he said after a while... oh you are a gamer...then you need a public IPv4 adress. 2 hours later the problem was fixed for me.
