Server Maintenance Downtime Over Christmas Period

Much better 15 min a day than over hour or something once per week.

And what comes to complaints about the "when" it occurs, is pure selfishness.

On this we must disagree. I don't care what time of day as long as it's only once a week. As for it being selfishness... it's hardly selfish of me to want to play a game I paid for during the only time I have to play it.

The point is, if you happen to have just one hour each day you can dedicate to this game (as you have a job, a family, or "a life") it is more than annoying to have a coffe break enforced in the middle of your playtime... again, this was one of the complaints about "no offline", and here it is, spoiling the experience of some players, outright!

There is that... but, as it goes, someone, somewhere, is gonna get the short stick, regardless of what is decided. Unless they somehow manage to squeeze downtime so that the worst brunt would be felt at middle of Pacific Ocean where the only player would be on a ship.

There not the only MMO with a Daily Downtime so trying to pull that card is a little annoying. But come on Frontier, it's been over a WEEK since you said 'in a week we will have a server status page up' I don't see no status page. And while yeah ok we get it you reboot the servers first thing in the morning UK time, would it hurt any to have it move a little at times plus I could have sworn you said this was over the christmas period only.. christmas is over has been for almost a month... just sayin.....

Server down-time? Maintenance? When I wish to play?!

How dare they be so selfish?! Don't they know who I am???!!!

It is an outrage and further proof that businesses despise their customers!

That is, why I argue about the bad backend design! If they decide to do a MMO that requires a server, why didn't they build it in a way that doesn't require a downtime, or at least, only once a month or less frequent?

If you work with modern cloud / data center mechanisms, and know what is technically possible this whole daily maintenance is ridiculous...

Hi guys,

For those that missed the annoucement last week, the status page can be found here: http://elitedangerous.com/status

Thank you for reminding players of the status page.

Unfortunately, it wasn't used at all yesterday when there was a hot fix that required the servers to go down with 10 minutes notice in game. This was after the patch went live.

I saw the 10 minute warning in game, played about 5 minutes more, then logged out and went to the status page. Not one mention of the servers going down. The page never changed status, and the hot fix was applied with only a forum post in the 1.05 thread as an indicator.

More how can they be too stupid/unprofessional to build it that way in the 21st century? It's not 1990 anymore when servers where all physical and redundancy meant a spare server for each other...

The fact alone, that the servers need a "regular" daily(!) maintenance is so bad designed, that it hurts. Or do they really just host ONE single server?!!!
