Setting Up Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Flightstick

Hello,

Noob Question:
--------------

Just purchased the Premium Beta package and logged onto the server.

Am noticing that most of the basic commands are relatively intuitive, but would like to setup my Logitech flight stick. I own a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. Any suggestions on how to set this up?

Thanks ahead o' time!

First, you'll need the keyboard to use all functions, so its a bit of preference what you want quick access too.

I used it at follow:

- hat for lateral thrusters (left, right, up, down)
- buttons right from the hat: next enemy target and next target
- buttons left from hat: previous enemy target and previous target

Buttons on the joystick base:

- UI Look
- Boost
- pips to engine
- pips to weapons
- pips to system
- reset pips

Don't bind the roll, yaw and pitch to individual axis(e.g pitch up, pitch down), assign them to the single axis option.

I use the 3D pro as well. I use

Y axis = Pitch (obviously)
x axis = Roll
Twist = yaw
Thumb button = secondary fire.
Hat = menu navigation
5 / 6 = look at left right menus
3 / 4 = move left or right tabs in the menus.

for my lateral and vertical thrust, I use a Nostromo keyboard (pic below) and I use Voice attack for the most important speed presets *(Full, combat, stop, reverse and full reverse). Small changes in speed are handeld by the shift and Ctrl keys.
The hat on my Nostromo is my power allocation key.
The wheel on the Nostromo is subtarget scrolling.

Hi!

i'm using the logitech extreme 3d pro, too.

here my setting:

setting "yaw on low roll" enabled
Y= pitch
X= roll
Twist= strafe left/right
9 & 10= strafe up/down
2= sec. fire
3= select target ahead
5= emergency thrust
6= fire group/next folder (hud menu)
4= target highest threat / enemy
7= toggle cockpit-look mode
11= toggle hud mode
hat= PIPS control and (7 or 11 pressed) look around / menu navigation
12= flight assist on/off
8= set speed to 0
U-axis: throttle (full range)

all other commands you need are set to a keyboard letter (Jump, supercruise, hardpoints, landing gear, scoops, ..)

It's good to see people playing with this stick :) I've got the same one, but only get to play on 16 Dec. Can't wait.

I use it too. Still planning to get a HOTAS but haven't taken the plunge yet. With Voice Attack the Logitech is more than adequate.

Great thread, I have been using the latest profile from that for beta 2 through now with minimal changes. The PDF with the assignments is helpful too..print a copy or put it on your second screen. Works a treat... I have used an image similar for my SC and EvoMerc profiles as well to get used to things.

HAT switch is thrusters + menu navigation.

I also use the X and Y axis to look around while holding RH SHIFT (I still have the middle mouse button + mouse move for look as well).

Beyond that, my setup is the same as what is used in that thread.

Works great. Was considering upgrading to a Thrustmaster T-16000M because I've had the Logitech for years (still working great and in great shape though)... but stock just dried up and price skyrocketed... I'll stick with my good ol' 3D + keyboard for now.

Hope the link helps and enjoy commander! :D

A quick "Thank You" from a noob. I just started playing ED yesterday and am using my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I was getting extremely frustrated with the contols because I couldn't get the pitch and roll controls to allow for a subtle input. I was in the first combat training mission, and couldn't center my weapons on the enemy ship because the controls were too jerky.

Today I read Kingson's post below, made the simple change of not binding the individual axis, and my 3D Pro now works like a pro!! Nice subtle smooth controls at center, and I can target my weapons 100% more accurately!

Don't bind the roll, yaw and pitch to individual axis(e.g pitch up, pitch down), assign them to the single axis option.

I am glad to be a noob in this community, and am thankful that you guys are here to use as a resource when I get stuck or frustrated in the game. :)

This is the stick I used to use during beta. My final configuration was to place this in the bin next to my desk and replace with an x55 HOTAS.

I suspect that i dont get the best out of mine as i use it with the generic joystick option and all the usual keypresses for thrust and speed etc. like the stick and it works for me and dont really understand all this binding malarkey ... If anyone could explain simply?

It's a good joystick, mine is years old and the stick itself still feels like new.

One word of advice, the big buttons on the base of the unit have gotten very unresponsive. Go easy on them if you want them to last. All the buttons on the stick itself including the hat are great, still working perfectly and click nicely.

X= Roll
Y=Pitch
Z=yaw

Trigger=primary
Thumb=target ahead
Hat=Lateral thrusters
Top buttons= FAoff, boost, secondary, chaff
Base buttons= balance power, shield power, engine power, weapon power, shield cells, cycle fire groups

I you don't use chaff, you can use the button for target next hostile.

My Config;

Axis

X - Roll
Y - Pitch
Z - Yaw

Triggers

Trigger - primary fire
Thumb trigger - secondary fire

Stick top buttons

Button 3 - Target Highest Threat
Button 4 - Cycle next enemy target
Button 5 - Target in reticle (target in front)
Button 6 - UI focus Mode (toggle)

Bottom Plate Buttons

Button 7 - Boost
Button 8 - Reverse thrust (toggle)
Button 9 - Landing gear
Button 10 - Cargo Scoop
Button 11 - Silent Running
Button 12 - Flight Assist

Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the pointers. I just bought ED and have one of these joysticks already. I'm planning on setting it up with a G3 Gamepad and your advice has been enlightening.

I've had the game for a few days now and still cannot get past the training modules so have yet to enter the game 'proper.' It looks like it will be a lot of fun!

Just bought one of this and it behaves like all momentary switches, I pull the stick back and the movement is on or of like a HAT any ideas on what is wrong ?
