Settlement Defense Plans update.

The word is: They are there, but you have to know where to look for them

Hints:
  • Industrial or Military Settlements,
  • High Security,
  • Medium or Large settlements (or better said, large enough to have a CMD building)
I mean the only reason I'm asking is because I have been actively doing all these, missions, what have you and the only 2 I've got were from two SDP espionage missions that I abandoned (and I can now find no such missions in a good 10 system radius). I mean i know it fdev but holy moly.

hello, guys

Try to find missions where you have to recover Bootleg Liquor (ship-mission). Maybe it was just luck, but I found two destroyed drones at the mission signal every time I did one of those. There's a chance the drones have the settlement defence plans. And the logout trick still works there too ;)

Got my missing ones in about half an hour.

Lol OK papi. you know how many IMs I've tried? You know how many of them were with a skimmer?
Several of the Salvage mission POIs are useful for something. Eagle = Power Regulators; Nav Beacon, Skimmer, Satellite = several different data types (including Manufacturing instructions.... although only the Skimmer gives SDPs).

The advantage of having a mission POI is that you only have to re-log to respawn the materials (rather than re-start). I often do Salvage missions, and when I find a good POI, I farm it.

If you are spamming Salvage missions, you can also get other materials as a mission reward, or build reputation with all the factions in your chosen system... which is useful in getting missions from NPC mission givers that reward 10 of a material.

All of this I already know. I have done over 60 salvage missions (the respawn being the reason) - 0 skimmers. I must have dropped on probably 40-50 IMs of varying threat levels - 0 skimmers. I mean, at this point I'm thinking somethings effed up.

Huh, thanks I'll give those a try.

Hm, just did one - sent me to an artificial structure with guarding sentinels but no crashed skimmers unfortunately. I might have to do a few of those to see if I hit one with skimmers.
Lol, I've been looking for that one (think it's called Active Power Source) the last few days with no success! 🤦‍♂️

I had given up on SDPs months ago but tonight tried a Liberate Liquor mission out of Jameson Memorial, and found a wrecked SRV with two sattelites also wrecked which both had Data Ports. I farmed these about 10 times and got about 5 or 6 SDPs, no enemies, and a bunch of other data like Manuf Instructions. I also had similar success with a Liberate Liquor mission out of Tarelkin Ring station; again, no enemies, many quit-to-main cycles, other good data and about 6 SDPs.. I am headed to Hero Ferrari (I already handed in 3 SDPs) to get that monkey off my back.

BTW these botth were NOT IM sites - they were "Wreckage" I think.

That's great. but is it still the case that, as mentioned on page 8 back in September, we have to restart now, instead of just re-logging? That puts a big dent in Yamiks' recommendation of irregular markers as a faster grind for engineering materials.

I found a Threat 2 one in [Trakask?], close to [Safe Station?] (I'll check these when I log in), and didn't bother re-logging - or Supercruising - because I was doing other missions. However, it gave me enough weapons schematics to upgrade my Intimidator to 4, so when I went back to that system half an hour later to pick up rewards and more missions, I dropped in and... containers still open and empty (though of course, the scavengers were still spawning).

So, grade 5 will take a bit longer.

@Ravetale @Dr. Smith

This is gold. Thank you. It's possible this is a reliable way to spawn locations which provide SDPs. It may even be true that two data ports = twice the drop-rate of the 'Irregular markers' skimmer POI. It beats that POI with the lack of hostiles too.
Glad it works :)

Re-logging is enough.

I've been trying to get Liqueur missions and they seem to be as elusive as the Download SDP ones. I managed to get three in my area of influence (anarchy bubble) and all send me to a Artificial Structures without skimmers. I jumped to Jameson to see if I had more luck with those - no luck, even after 30 mins of flipping boards ... Imma quit this game for a bit ...

That is odd.... 2 days ago, I read on here about the "Liberate Liquor" missions and found this video:
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgNu3JRD-vY
that showed Tarelkin Ring; I ran over to that station, found the mission on the board, and successully found 5 or 6 SDPs. Then I went to Jameson and again found a mission immediately which yielded 5 or 6 SDPs. No board-flipping necessary. Maybe it has something to do with my standing with the mission givers? They all love me at Jameson. Not so at Tarelkin Ring though. Maybe I just lucked out.

And then I went back the next day, and the Threat 3 irregular marker was nowhere to be seen, so permanence seems to have been nerfed as well, and the existing 'crash sites', 'distress calls' etc, even L3, weren't giving out either.. It was the same in Chambo, last time I was in the bubble.

Oh, yeah, Safe Haven, in Trakath.

Alright, this is absolutely the way! After a really long unlucky streak (5 LL missions that sent me to anything but skimmers) I finally got one (the POI was "Minor Wreckage"). An hour and a half later I got 8 SDPs. Someone post this on reddit to save other player's sanity.
