Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

The one thing missing from the first part of the latest reboot was tomb raiding, they were added as a kind of afterthought and were basic jump onto moving thing and collect a token... strangely enough...lots of climbing and jumping to and from stuff but the tombs were secondary to cutscenes of Lara crying a great deal.

The rise of the tomb raider fixed it a bit with some nice, but childish puzzles to solve along with the jumping and falling off stuff...now with the last of the trilogy, Square Enix have remembered that raiding tombs is what it's all about with some absolutely visually gorgeous and inventive tombs to raid....

I've actually got back to resting my head on the keyboard on occasion as I watch Lara miss that vital ledge by millimetres for the third time and plunge to her doom before realising there's an easier route or there's a certain lever I've missed...

Extremely enjoyable romp [yesnod]

After playing some more I have to say there is much more emphasis on exploring, tomb raiding, puzzle solving and platforming compared to the previous two of the reboot trilogy.
It's a proper Tomb Raider game.

I am near 20 hours and I still haven't left Paititi for the main quest's continuation. There's so much to do and see! :)

Yes Indeed. I've been playing TR games since the mid 90's, but have liked this trilogy. They did seem to lose sight of what the real TR game was about. Prolly after watching jolie butcher the first TR movie, and a big thx for sharing that about the latest TR movie. I rarely watch tv and I don't watch youtube, so didn't even know about it. Jolie isn't in it so it has to be light years better.

Errr...no, it isn't [squeeeee]

These rebooted TR games have stunning production values; epic graphics etc.

That being said I've only got the original TR reboot and the button-mashing aspects to launch Quicktime events never really hooked me..... I still haven't finished that game.

If you at least enjoyed the concept, I'd still recommend playing the other two. The first one is unnecessary, story-wise. It's just an introduction. A "Lara Croft Origins" so to speak.
The other two are much more... Tomb-raider-y, and less button-mashy (especially this third one is really awesome to play)

Whilst there are still QTEs, Shadow has an option to replace button-mashing with button-hold, which makes it much less painful. This is one of several other accessibility features they put in this time around:

Last Friday the game received the first of 7 dlc's.
Made some free time this weekend to play it.

Edit: The dlc will be out on November 13th, I was so sure it was out already, sorry.

There was a "Pet a llama" day in Paititi

Didn't even get spat on...

Those are great pictures, this game is so beautiful.

First re-boot was ok except I hated the QTime events....final boss fight decided by QTE? Nah not for me as an avid Souls player.

Bought the 2nd one in Steam sale, unfortunately went over the 2 hours refund time...it was garbage.

3rd one looks like more of the 2nd, so I avoided.

Glad others enjoy them, but far from what they once were. Snazzy GFX aren't everything.

It really is. I love the photo mode.

And I haven't noticed the DLC! Thanks. :)

edit: umm.. what's the DLC? I've got a season pass, but I don't see anything new in the list. *scratches head*

Me neither....

Sorry, I really thought it was already out but it will be available on November 13th.

We are proud to announce the first of seven new DLC adventures for Shadow of the Tomb Raider - The Forge. Available as a free download to all Season Pass holders, or as a standalone purchase, The Forge will launch worldwide on November 13th.

Well, if you don't enjoy platforming, exploration and puzzles, then yeah. Tomb Raiders are trash. :p
