Shadowplay issue (Nvidia screen capture software)

Every now and again I like to capture some of my Elite Dangerous adventures with Shadowplay, but since the new look version (of Shadowplay) has appeared I have been unable to record.

I noticed a while back that it was no longer able to "optimise" the graphics settings of the game either - don't know if this is related to my problem?

Has anybody managed to conquer similar problems?

Cheers.

Nvidia Experience 3.x is a disaster in almost every way.

I managed to get footage by enabling desktop recording, ALT+TABing out of ED, hitting my record hot key and opening ED again. To be honest, it soured me so much I haven't tried again or sought a long term solution. If you can find someone hosting a legacy version of Nvidia Experience I'd grab it.

Yes, there are others that have had the same problem. There should be a thread in here somewhere about it, and basically the solution most there found was to revert back to an earlier version.
What is the issue you are having? Apparantly to record from ED you need to set it to record "Desktop", otherwise it may (or may not) record your launcher only.

Well, there's an icon for recording, which I click then a START button appears, which does nothing for me. I've been through the settings, I think I've tried with and without desktop (was that in the Privacy section?) But no luck.

Now that I think about it, I think Shadowplay used to only record the desktop if you enabled an Aero theme in the screen personalization settings (Win 7) so maybe I need to do that. :-/

I can't help much, other than to verify that the new Share (it's no longer called Shadowplay, apparently) works fine for me, using Full Screen in ED (not windowed, it doesn't work there). Quality is quite high, and I used it pretty much daily.

So it's not broken across the board.

I DID have to change the keybinding for Share, though, the defaults interfered with ED in some way, and I could not activate recording using a keybind. I changed them to include Ctrl-Alt and now they are fine.

I was never able to optimise Elite within the tool and now with the new version, Elite is not in the optimisation list anymore. But it's ok. I use FDev settings for VR Ultra ingame and that works fine.
I got a crash when trying to take a screenshot (ALT+F1). The entire game crashed. The recording works fine.

It works for me. Though it took me a while to set it up - the new look of the whole thing is a mess.
Like Artigan said, it only works in true fullscreen. Windowed and borderless window don't work.

What card do you people have, btw.? It seems to work with 9th and 10th generations of nVidia cards, while the 8th struggle and 7th refuses to function altogether. It may even be intentional. They did things like that in the past.
I remember when they introduced the 6XX, they intentionally crippled the performance of 4XX and 5XX by new drivers. I had GTX460 at the time and I had to stick with older drivers to get full performance, because new drivers stomped it down 20%.

Shadowplay has been terrible for several versions. Use Loilo Game Recorder instead: loilo.tv/us/product/game_recorder
It's free, it works, it d d do doe does doesn't st st stu stutter like Shadowplay. And it has a lot of great options.

The new version of Nvidia is better. Once set, it's all automatic. Go to the share symbol, switch on "instant replay". That's it. When you want to record something that happened, press alt +f10 the same as before to find the recording in your videos folder.

I found the best way to get shadow play to work is to launch the actual game from it rather than steam doing this I found all the capture shortcuts worked in the game

Can't stand GeForce Experience 3, it's absolute garbage. Honestly don't know what NVIDIA were thinking putting that out.

I stuck with it for a while but evenutally gave up and rolled back to the previous version following a reddit thread similar to this one (can't find the exact one anymore).

Basically you need to uninstall version 3 and then download and install a recent copy of version 2. When you run it it will prompt you to update to 3 again. Cancel that and then go and remove the Update folder as described (actually, rather than remove it I just renamed it ... just in case).

At some point (maybe during the uninstall) I think you get the option to tell NVIDIA why you're uninstalling their software. Explain to them (in the politest terms) that it sucks balls.

In what way is it better? Previously it was "once set, it's all automatic" only now:

* You have to login to an account
* Using single keys as hotkeys will prevent those keys from being usable, e.g. I used to use "Numpad -" as my hotkey for shadowplay record, but if I use that it prevents me from using that button to type "-" when not in a game, despite me disabling it from recording Desktop
* Other stuff such as an arguably worse, less user-friendly UI

Well I have a lowly 760, which for me is fine with Elite and my other games, but are you saying that its just not going to work with Shadowplay any more?

No, but I'm saying that nVidia did things in the past to encourage users of the older models to buy a new card. So I am not ruling out the possibility that the fact that older cards have problems with Shadowplay isn't an accident.

You could try installing the old version of Experience. The new version is optional - You can still run the latest drivers.

I am using it with a 1080 and a CV1. Aside from the generally cumbersome awfulness, the only two specific problems I've had are:

(1) Mouse pointer (not in-game pointer, actual mouse pointer) being recorded even when running game full screen. The solution is to tab out and click on the minimised launcher icon - but irritating.

(2) For reasons I can't discover it's stopped recording sound.

Any help with item (2) would be much appreciated!

I have a GTX 780 and Shadowplay 3 works fine for me... or as close to fine as something with such an abomination of a UI as that thing can...

I haven't had too many issues with the new Shadowplay other than it struggles to start up properly whenever I boot up my PC. But it eventually rights itself after a few minutes. Another small goof up it had was that the keybinding for taking screenshots also toggled VoiceAttack on and off, lol. Oddly, I didn't realize it until after several screenshots were taken as I guess I always took an even number. Finally I took just one and realized Eden wasn't responding to me.

I've recorded and streamed with it quite a few times, even used it for my Extra Life stream a couple weeks back, it handled it like a champ. Make sure your settings are all in tune with each other, I know certain functions won't work if others are activated, especially in the privacy section.

I had some stuttering and slowdown in my videos, until I excluded my video output folders, and the ED game folder, from Windows Defender. This is on Windows 10.
