Shadowrun: Hong Kong

Looks like I'll be taking a month or so away from E:D as of next Tuesday to burn through some cyberpunk turn based RPG goodness. Anyone else?

was the original shadowrun reboot worth a look? it is one (of many) games I have hovered over!.

Shadowrun Returns was pretty good. But Shadowrun: Dragonfall was excellent. The gameplay isn't genre-breaking in either (not bad though), but the writing in both is really top-notch. I'd recommend starting with Dragonfall, simply because it's the best and there's no continuity that you'll miss between the two.

Note that both campaigns are pretty short and linear (dead man's switch especially), but they're actually pretty replayable thanks to the variety in character builds.

And it's out! I like the effort they've spent to make the setting feel different. Everything's more hostile than Berlin.
Liking the new matrix gameplay too.

I just finished Dragonfall. Lovely game. It's nice how these old-school RPGs are getting a revival. I never knew I missed them... I'd give Hong Kong a go, but I still have a few more games from the last Steam sale and I don't get much gaming time. :)

There are some really good user created campaign for Shadowrun. I don't remember their names right offhand, well yes, one is called a stitch in time, but there were two others. One of them i felt was way better than the original campaign(ok not very hard) and potentially as good or better than Dragonfall. Maybe i'l go look for them later so i can give titles...they were among the highest rated on shadowrun UGC sites so are nto hard to find..

I've not been following the series since though and actually had no idea about hong kong.

I brought this one just before I uninstalled Steam which has been a blessing since. I was spending to much on games. I didn't bother reinstalling the Shadowrun game. I though this expansion is going to introduce more supernatural/horror type races or monsters to the base game.

Am I right?

I'd be interested to know which, I had a stab at playing a few but got disheartened by a few unsatisfying ones (the one I remember had a team mate with a katana he couldn't actually equip, and my character having a hacked-in healing spell that worked like an infinite medkit). Since I just finished HK, I've got the hunger again...

This one certainly has a horror theme to its storyline, but the base setting is still very much about ork/troll/dwarf/elf/human people, it's not like you get to play as something else. On the other hand they've added a bit more choice to the equipment and cyberware, Dragonfall felt to me like there was only one of anything, whereas this has a couple of options for a lot of the gear.
