It was always coming since the buy out. Am surprised it took as long as it did.
When the buy out 1st happened I was dissapointed and almost didn't buy my DK2 over it.
I gotta say tho I think Facebook have really supported VR over the last 5 years or so and if it were not for facebook VR would not be anywhere near as popular as it is. I would say over half of the best VR games either had direct or indirect support from the company and whilst the riftS or quest are not products I am buying it at least they are making products the average consumer can buy.
The index may be great but that is not a product to get VR to really take off.
The thing with Facebook... IF you use it then you already gave them all your info.
IF you have no intention of using it then just make a dummy account (just don't be obvious about it). I really don't think it's that big a deal.
All that being said I have a Reverb G2 on preorder. I won't lie am gonna miss my CV1 touch controllers tho and an very worried about the batteries in the G2 controllers. Last I heard WMR controllers don't work with 1.2v recharables.
Oculus really hit a home run with oculus touch
Apparently they will update the terms and conditions, so I'd expect a fair bit more tracking on users though.
I think the Reverb G2 (have also one on preorder) has it all to upend the VR market, by the looks of it the first properly uncompromised visual quality at mass market prices. I mean, the CV1 was great, but after the VR honeymoon gone, the visual quality started to age quickly and it was uncomfortable to use for an extended time.
Edit: I won't miss the touch controllers that much, actually the limited tracking (beyond the table, for example, when trying sims) was an issue which will be gone with the inside-out tracking.
